Doc tends to not give rookies any real playing time
I wonder if that will change with this shortened season and the increased back to backs.
JJJ and Moore having excellent breakout years would be fantastic news for the Celtics.
Glen Davis disagrees, as does Rondo, Leon Powe, Mike Miller, and a ton of other rookies who can play.
He tends not to give playing time to rookies who suck.
Hope you're right, because Avery Bradley was supposed to be the next big thing and he got no playing time at all (so I'm assuming he sucks lol).
Avery Bradley's play in what limited minutes he got and in the D-League didn't show he could contribute. He might be a player in a few years, but right now he does "suck" as a rotation player.
Unless he's made a massive leap he's not going to help us, but he's very young much younger than JJJ.
I agree with your general line of reasoning, but I'm actually somewhat optimistic regarding Bradley this year after hearing a recent Doc interview. Doc recognized that Bradley was paralyzed by the responsibilities of running the point. Doc said he was going to treat him as a pure 2, and that Dooling's ability to handle the ball and guard either the 1 or 2 would be big in helping Bradley get on the floor. I think Bradley will be a much different player if he's allowed to play the 2 on offense. He showed in college and his stint in the D-league that he can shoot the 3-ball (38% in college, 37% in the D-league), and hit jump shots off of screens, and he's shown tremendous defensive potential at every level. What stood out his rookie year was his complete inability to create good looks for himself or others off the dribble. Once that expectation is removed and he's allowed to play his natural position, I think we might see a quality 2-way player emerge.
As for JJ, my expectations are modest. Defending the pick and roll every possession, denying post position, rotating inside and out instead of just hanging out by the rim and blocking shots: I think this adjustment will be painful. He showed a disproportionate interest on the offensive side of the ball his senior year. He's going to have to completely remake himself as a defense-first player to make up for the fact that his offensive skill-set (nice mid-range jumper, length to shoot over/around smaller defenders) is not all that exceptional in the NBA. Certainly not enough to make up for below-average rebounding and defense.
