2 spots left: Rip Hamilton and Aaron Gray

I would be happy with that.  And if they can't get Hamilton, I would be happy carrying the MLE over, and using it to throw at one of the guys coming from China in March.  Kenyon Martin would be a heck of a March pickup.

Aaron Gray signed with the Raptors wanted him too

Good move.

Money wasn't important, years were.  And keeping it at one was a very good move.

Now, if he makes the jump and becomes a great player, we have his Bird rights.  If he doesn't, we can let him go and have cap room.

I put this in another topic as well...

With Green signing for $9 M, could this mean Green is going to NO for D. West instead of Jermaine?

I was kind of hoping he stuck around for a while.  I know he didn't look to great last season, but I really think he's going to be good for us.... I hope.

Shouldn't take a lot of effort to improve upon his last season's performance.

If we can sign him, his contract is a nice trade piece for a guy to help us win this year.

We can't trade him without his consent, and I doubt he'd give that consent since he'd be losing Bird rights.

EDIT:  However, a team would still have non-Bird rights (or at least would have under the old CBA), so they could offer a deal starting around $10.8 million.  That goes a long way toward mitigating the loss of Bird rights.

Doesn't he have to sign a 3-year deal if he's going out in sign-and-trade?

We wouldn't be sign-and-trading him at the deadline, but yes.  However, the last two years of a S&T can be non-guaranteed years.

This was a nice move by the Celtics.
Preserves the C's options for next year, makes Green feel appreciated, prevents others from nabbing him this year.

I definitely just gained a crap-load more respect for Jeff Green as a person after signing this offer.....was stoked on the trade from a talent-perspective when we got him. Thought Pierce needed a successor and PP and KG would be the perfect combo of mentors to develop Green in to hopefully an All-Star caliber player a few years down the road.

You could tell he was nervous last season, and not comfortable with his place in the offense especially. Rather than give up on the team and run from his "failure" (to instantly live up to the high expectations), he recognized what we gave up (freaking Perk who is one of my favorite players) to get him, sacked up like a man, and took a relatively modest deal to prove himself to a group of vets, the league, and the fan-base alike. At a point in his career where most players his age are only thinking dollar-signs, he went on a road more oriented on being part of something bigger than himself. That is the kind of character I want on the Celtics, and for the long term.

May he kick some major ass, and we can build around the core of he and Rondo now while we are solid title contenders! Hats off to you Jeff Green!

I hope that Green comes back and has the type of season I always thought he would when he came out of Georgetown. I expected him to be an all around talented SF with outside and inside skills and have good to great defensive skills and leadership qualities. He hasn't demonstrated any of that but now would be a great time to show me he does have what I thought he had in college.
