What about pursuing Howard?

Complete long shot I know, but...

Right now, the deal offered by the Nets is Lopez and two firsts. Which, if I were the Magic, I would seriously consider if I knew Howard was walking. I would ask them to sweeten it with another player or two though.

On the other hand, while Lopez is a "nice" player, he's not an impact player. And I actually do think Rondo "is" an impact player at his position.

Therefore, what about a package of:

Rondo, Jeff Green, Big Baby, the Clipper's pick and two future first round of ours for Dwight Howard.

Orlando gets a young, starting small forward, a potential starter at PF an all star point guard, a Clipper's lottery pick and additional first round picks.

Orlando could then focus on drafting a good young center by offering their 1st round pick and the Clipper pick. Or they could package Nelson, Turk and or Reddick for another good young piece at one position...

Free agent center this year / Clipper pick
Big Baby / Bass
Hedu / Jeff Green
Reddick / Trade Nelson for an off guard?
Rondo / Duhon

You'd have to rebuild, but you'd start with an all star point guard, some nice young pieces and a boat load of 1st round picks. That, to me, would be better than bringing in an injury riddled Bynum...

For Boston, we now go after Derron Williams

Of course, I suppose the Clippers could enter the bidding with DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon, Gomes and Bledsoe and make us look like a red headed step child...

Actually, I would like it if the Clippers did that. It would mean, the lakers lost Chris Paul and would then have Howard and Griffin sticking it up their backsides for the next 10 years.

Why on earth have the Clippers not yet contacted Orlando in pursuit of Howard yet? They actually have the pieces to get a deal done that would be quite nice for Orlando.

DeAndre Jordan / Daniel Orton
Bass / Anderson
Turkoglu / Gomes
Gordon / Reddick
Nelson / Bledsoe

With a little tweaking, that might be a pretty good team. Helluva lot better than watching Howard walk next season.

Clippers:

Howard / Kaman
Griffin / Anyone
Vet Free agent / Farouq
Willie Warren /
Mo Williams

People would be lining up to come play with theat Howard / Griffin tandem so you'd be pretty well re-built within 1-2 years.

Celtic fan again overvalues rondo.  No chance he could be the center piece that nets us Howard.  This is pretty much a pipe dream.  The ONLY chance the Celts have is in free agency, just like before.

Perhaps I haven't been paying close enough attention, but, why hasn't there been more talk about trying to pry Deron Williams from NJ, when he's essentially in the same situation that Paul is in? He's in the last year of his contract, he's already said he won't re-sign with NJ, and on top of that there have been rumors linking Howard to NJ so that he can play with Williams...

It would be nice to know how highly Orlando values Rondo but I expect they wouldn't have much interest. That they'd want a scorer or a big man to build around post-Dwight.

Definitely a long shot.

Well The Nets have apparently already held talks with Howard so obviously they have the upper hand what with their relocation to Brooklyn + Deron Williams stating that he wants to stay with the team long term.

If we have the smallest of chances of landing Howard then I would have expected it to be all over the Media. The fact is that we havent held talks, We havent held talks with regards to trading the "Big 3"

We have dont anything to adress this old team, The only thing we have done so far is rattle the cage of Rajon Rondo, we havent done ourselves any favors these past few weeks

I worry for this season and beyond

It's not even 2 PM on the first day that trades and signings are allowed, I don't think it's time to give Danny a failing report card on the offseason.

And if the Nets are found to have tampered, wouldn't they be blocked from the deal?

The Nets have cap space to sign a MAX player this offseason (like a Howard).  they have no intention of getting rid of D-Will, they're trying to build around him
