Obviously I don't have access to the medical reports, but Daniels has twice gotten concussions/spine problems during games when he was ever so slightly bumped in the head.  He's a HUGE injury risk.  Why waste the roster spot and $$?

Because we know what he brings when he is healthy, he knows the system and is a valuable rotation player.

And because, at this price, you can't really find a better wing player, so you have to take the injury risk once again.

Getting someone who already knows the system and is willing to play for the veteran's minimum is a no-brainer, IMO.

Low risk/Hi reward. He knows the system already and when healthy is a good player. They spend the money for those last few spots as insurance.
Yes Sir,

Because the last thing we need is an old, slow wing coming off the bench.

there's not a lot of options out there

Boston has PLENTY of roster spots, too many actually. And it's not costing very much money at all. Worst case scenario he gets hurt... i'm sure the Celtics are actually anticipating it.

agree with the OP...i think this is a waste...we all know he will get hurt and be out an extended period of time this season. don't care if he knows the system..does us no good when he is out for 2 months with some nagging or spine injury

According to his agent (Boston Herald story this morning), Daniels got his neurological condition fixed completely.  The doctor gave him full clearance.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Honestly, I'm not thrilled about Daniels coming back.  Between he and Delonte West it was a tossup on who could stay healthy during the season.

With a guy like Daniels, it almost seems preferable to keep him on the inactive list for the first 2/3 of the season, just to increase the liklihood that he's available for the playoffs.  He was good when he played last year.

Which is why I think people are idiots if they desperately want Delonte to come back but cite injury concerns as a reason to hate a rerun of Marquis.

Marquis is versitle, knows the system, gets along well with the players and coach, and is cheap! What's not to like?

I still hope we can bring DWest back too.

Kenyon/Bradley
West/Marquis
Green/Marquis
Bass/JJ
????

Is a decent looking bench (minus the C position)!

If we bring Marquis back, we should be bringing back Nate over Delonte (much more durable)
