Who are the Celtics going to get to fill out there roster?
We still have the MLE at $ 3 MM plus the vet minnimum. Here are the roster locks so far.

1-Rondo/Dooling/Bradley
2-Ray/Quis/
3-Pierce/Green(assuming qualifying offer)
4-KG/JJJ
5-JO

I assume we bring Big Baby back (his biggest suitor besides us was Detroit who just paid a decent amount to retain Prince and Jerebko) which makes 11. You have to assume that at least one of Moore or Brown makes the roster, which brings us to 12. That leaves us at least one signing with the possibility for as many as 3.

MLE (possibilities):
Bigs: Carl Landry, Kwame Brown
Offense off the bench: JR Smith (if he is able to leave), Jamal Crawford, Jason Richardson, Rodney Stuckey, Vince Carter

Vet Min:
Bigs: Leon, Aaron Gray, Spencer Hawes, Reggie Evans, Craig Smith
Wings: Delonte,

Please add to this list and make predictions as to how our last spots are filled.

Hayes is off the market already.

My bad I confused him and Carl Landry. I'll edit the post.

Almost the whole list will cost more than the mini mle we have. Of the min guys I would take Evans, Gray and Delonte. Decent chance Delonte isn't coming back unfortunately. I think that's why Danny picked up Dooling.

The players to choose from were a bad group before and it's only getting worse as players are getting picked up.

1-Rondo/Dooling/Bradley
2-Ray/Quis/
3-Pierce/Green(assuming qualifying offer)
4-KG/JJJ
5-JO

When you list things out this way a couple of glaring holes appear. One has been apparent for some time and that is we need at least 1 big, with JO's health risks, probably 2. The other is that we have NO offense on our bench, unless you're really impressed by what Quisy and JG are giving us. We need someone who can score off the bench.

I can see that but still wonder where the points will come from off our bench.

Hopefully the young guys, Green, Bradley, JJJ. If they can play well this year it solves our bench problems and sets us up for the future. In other words it's extremely wishful thinking.

I think Green will pick up his scoring off the bench this year. Either way it's still weak in that department. Either Jujuan has to step in and contribute or Baby has to stick around and score more efficiently.

Bradley sounds like he's been working hard, he looked really lost last year but I hope he's progressed a little. Wishful thinking on Bradley but the other two have a good shot at it.

For the record I'm not saying Bradley wont contribute but given what I saw last year it's unlikely.

Quisy has a real knack for "scoring the basketball" as the announcers love to say. I just hope that guy can stay healthy.

But yes, the bench is pathetic this year... Why don't they look into Iverson as a pure scorer off the bench? Put him in there with 4 stooges (BBD, Bradley, JJ, Green) and just tell him to score. He loves that and did that for years and seems to be how he plays best. Give him the ball and get out of his way. Only scorer out there we can afford IMO. Let the big 4 rest up for a good 10 minutes and let it be the AI show...

The way our team is shaping up this year it's worth a shot...
I have 17 reasons why my team is better than yours...

Yes he did it for years but it has also been just as many since he has been able to. Nothing left in the tank. Last time he tried was a similar situation and he couldn't hang.

The area in which the Cs need the most help is at Center, but if the Celtics want to remain competitive in going after DH next offseason, then the Cs need to keep an eye on salaries.

What would be great is if the Cs could somehow swing a S&T of BBD for a decent backup Center on a short contract. Someone like Zaza Pachulia (2 years remaining ~$10M) from Atlanta (I don't think BBD fits in with Atlanta's needs, but the point is -- a player of Zaza's caliber and contract duration).

Then use the mini-MLE on a backup PF like Kurt Thomas.

Then convince Green to sign the one year QO.

Then use the vet min to sign bench depth

Roster:

1-Rondo/Dooling/Bradley
2-Ray/Quis/ [vet min]
3-Pierce/Green/ [vet min]
4-KG/Kurt Thomas/JJJ
5-JO/Zaza P./ [vet min]

That's a roster that's not as good as Miami's or Chicago's, but can contend. You never know what might happen in a condensed season.  Moreover, the roster is filled with players on short contracts, so Cs can still be active on the FA market in the offseason (or engage in trade deadline moves).

I guess Big Baby isn't going to be on the team next year. We're trading him for Brandon Bass, who I think is probably better anyway.

@DDuggan21 Celtics Insider: Celts in talk to trade Glen Davis to Orlando...
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

Okay, this fits with what I wrote above about trading BBD for a quality bench player on a short contract.

Next step is to use the mini MLE on a Center (looks like that will be Chris Wilcox).
