These guys have been ranting all morning about the audacity of Stern to reject the trade. While entitled to their opinion, they make no effort to present the other POV,which is what they normally try to do. Their guest Chris Broussard was even more outraged, if that were possible.  They simply cannot accept the special circumstances here: the NO Hornets are owned by the entire league, which is comprised of all 30 teams.  Those teams have a voice, comparable to a Board of Directors, over decisions made by that team. They collectively decided that the trade would not be good for the league, as it would reinforce the trend of rewarding super stars and agents pressuring owners to make trades to the handful of desirable big market teams.  If I were a Laker fan, I would be angry, but as a fan of the NBA, who wants to see a more balanced distribution of talent, I believe the League got this right.

It's sports talk radio. They're paid to rant, what did you expect?

That Bushardjoker is clearly a LAKERS chrony and Celtics hater.......he is crying for LA  like crazy.....if it had been the Celtics he'd been glade to see us screwed any day of the week.  >:(

Mike and Mike don't understand how critical the power struggle in the NBA is...... most of the markets are tired of throwing the best players and conceeding championships at LA , year after year.

I think we are in uncharted territory here with the league rejecting the trade. This is truly unprecedented in all my years of following the sports and this sets a dangerous precedent by the NBA. If I were the Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Bulls, Thunder, Knicks, Mavericks, Rockets, Spurs and a few other teams I would seriously consider seceding from the NBA and form our own basketball league.

This lockout has done a lot more damage to the integrity of the NBA than I thought and I am truly appalled by the interference in the league in conducting legitimate basketball business.

The correct solution for bankrupt owners is to contract the team and afford the opportunity for it's players to find positions elsewhere.

Where is the common sense, here? Obviously this does not apply to the NBA. The NBA is a travesty and that is why I have this signiture.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

I completely disagree, as this sets a terrible precedent.  All 3 teams agreed to this deal, I don't think it's appropriate to intervene in a deal unless there is evidence of collusion, attempt to circumvent a league rule, or some other shady dealing.

Now any owner can fight any transaction New Orleans makes if it doesn't directly benefit his own team.  This is a huge mess.

Plus neither of them know much or focus on basketball, they are primarily a mass market show about football and making bad nerd/fat guy jokes.

The question should be:  Does a GM have the power to finalize a trade without the approval of the team's owner.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift...
That is why it is called the present.

This is not true. The Lakers did not officially sign off; in fact the reports right before the league rejected the trade was that the Lakers felt they needed to improve it for themselves. The Hornets never officially signed off because their approval is subject to league approval.  And apparently the trade doesn't even work on the trade checker.

It works if NOH renounce David West and all their other free agents to get $10 million dollars under the cap.

The trade checker doesn't give you that option, but the trade as proposed does work under league rules that way.

Broussard is the NBA expert and was even more one-sided.  As another poster already noted, he was emotionally upset that Kobe had planned to go to the airport to greet his new team-mate, but the League took that moment away from him. I am serious.

By renouncing D West, what you are really, de facto, is including him into the trade to LA, because everyone here knows that he would do a sign and trade to the Lakers.  So that just makes it worse.

Furious like Ben Stiller in Mystery Men? Because that might come close to making them worth paying attention to.

Good for them.

I'm glad Stern is finally standing up to these diva players
