Well, New Orleans could force LA to take Emeka Okafor back and change the financial complexion of that trade ... but I think they want to keep him.

Okafor gives them a legitimate center and a valuable defensive anchor. Helps balance the squad with PFs like Luis Scola and Lamar Odom as well as a defensive sieve named Kevin Martin.

I don't buy the Washington Generals rhetoric, but the deal was horrible for the Hornets. They'd be better by letting Paul walk. Take in $50 millions in salaries, delay the rebuilding process and be a mediocre team... after trading your superstar? Makes no sense. Even less considering the other offers they had.

I think Dell Demps was going to work for the Rockets or the Lakers after the Hornets were sold. Only way to explain why he'd agree to such a deal.

Dell Demps was always going to be in a tough spot and that's why the league shouldn't own a team for that long. A guy who knows he is going to be around for a while does the Rondo trade, but a guy who wants to look good in the short term does the (Scola?) trade. BTW, that's a problem...when you don't even know what to call that trade.

I think this was a solid move by the league because that franchise value was going to tank with all of this salary committed to mediocre talent that are only getting further into their careers.

It would be a cool situation to buy the Hornets and to build around Rondo. You'd have 2 solid first round picks this year since you'd be in the top part of the lottery and you got the Clippers pick. Strong draft according to anyone who follows that stuff. Jeff Green probably would've been signed to a reasonable deal since his market seems to be nonexistent.

And then that trade today would've left them with that Knicks pick which is likely to be in the 20s. A bunch of nice players that have no wow factor and no chances to be an all star. And they're all old so you basically have to flip them ASAP to be able to get better contracts, youth, and picks(which you should've been able to do with the Paul trade.) That waiting period would hurt. The players are good enough that you'd be an average to solid team, but with no real hopes of winning a playoff series. That damage would've set the franchise back 10 years. When you have the money to get a toy like this, you want to be able to actually have flexibility. This deal would've given them very little.

I can see why the league stepped in. Demps had contact with the league this whole time, but they didn't know the final one that got agreed to in principle.
