He's got himself in a mess with this whole cp3 debacle. boston is going to be a 1st round exit next year and a 7-10 team in the draft after this season, missing out on a superstar pick. Could Ainge be fired for failing to have a successful plan?

i doubt it.  im not sure how you could blame danny for not being able to get chris paul.  he put arguably the best deal on the table, and the hornets weren't willing to take it because they'd rather compete for the playoffs for a season or two and be terrible than begin rebuilding with youth right away.

danny had a plan, and surely still does, his first plan just hasn't worked out.

I agree.  I respect Danny even more.  He was going for a move that would've made us better this year and in the future.  That's a sign of a good GM.

What would you have done? He essentially made a deal with the devil in 2007. We all knew the whole time the window was only going to stay open for a short time.

So come 2009, Garnett starts to have knee trouble, what would you have done? Break up the core? Make a run at LeBron or Wade? Guess what, they were never coming here! He elected to keep it together.

Danny is doing his best right now with a tough situation. We can't make teams trade with us and we can't make players want to come here. That's life.

Had he kept Perkins and signed him to the extension he got in OKC, Paul would be in Boston now.

Perkins in his current contract >>>> Jeff Green signed&traded

Depends upon his relationship with Wyc.

I have long thought that the Perk trade was more about Danny ensuring the C's long-term viability vs. us winning a championship last year.

We're still paying for that decision.

Please. It's not Ainge's fault that the idiots down in New Orleans decided to gift the NBA golden boys the best PG in the game. Even though we offered the best deal.

Danny made the right move by going all in.  We all knew that when we built a team around three 30-somethings that this day would come.  Danny did everything in his power to keep the Celtics relevant into the future.  The CP3/Howard combo was within grasp, and he had to go for it.

I believe Chris Paul was heading to LA all along; not a single thing would change the final outcome.

Now that the hope is gone which was blinding me.

I can see that now too.

Did you really think the NBA was going to let the Lakers get old and irrelevant?
