He knows we have Rivers but says he doesn't want to sign an extension with us.

Or, his "associates say it".  Lets see what the actual landscape is next summer, and then see what he says.  He may not have all that many other appealing options.

Not saying he won't come here, agree its just a rumor, just like almost everything that's been discussed regarding possible trades are all rumors.

i read a yahoo article today saying "Ainge and Doc are confident they can convince Paul to sign an extention"

Im guessing if the trade DOES happen, Doc is ready to part ways with Rondo? =(

but yeh, Tyson Chandler is signing with the Knicks, if they pay close to what he demands, I do not see the Knicks having enough money to sign CP3, and that automatically takes them out of Dwight in 2012, unless they decide to trade Chandler/Amare for Dwight

The biggest problem I see with the Celtics and resigning Paul(if....) or attracting Free Agents is the perception many of the younger players have of the Boston Celtics.

Think about it.  Most of these 20 something stars know a lot more about the Celtics 20 years of mediocrity then they do of their 4 years of success.  For the majority of their lives the Celtics have been bad.  They don't see the Celtics as an established winner over the long haul.

The way to change this perception is to be a solidly coached and run organization.  Doc and Danny have had short term success but building a lasting reputation as a solid organization takes time.

Many of us Celtic fans go back far enough to know of the glory days of the Boston Celtics(myself to the early 70's) but these youngsters don't perceive the Celtics the same way we do IMO.

I just mean that Doc is such a player's coach, and PG's coach, CP will love it once he starts playing for him.  That is why I think we need to just get him here; Doc will take care of the rest.

Why would the record of the Celtics in the 90s matter, though? If the argument is that players are not looking historically, why would they look past the last 6 or so years? I mean, there are two ways to look at a franchise. An inclusive one that takes into account its entire history, or one that only takes into account its current incarnation. Pre-Doc Rivers/Danny Ainge era Celtics are a different thing entirely from what they are now. We have been a consistent contender for several years.

Basically, you can't have it both ways. The mid 90s are a long time ago, especially for 20 somethings. I barely remember them, and I am the same age as most of these guys. Either they care about the history, in which case the legendary Celtics teams of yore overshadow the mid 90s anyway, or they only care about recent history and the future.

EDIT: Hell, 2006-2007 was terrible for Boston, and 2004-2005 was terrible for L.A., and 2007-2008 was terrible for Miami, etc. etc. Every franchise has terrible stretches, many of them in recent memory. Unless they are terrible right now, or are about to GET terrible, who cares?

The biggest asset the C's would have to sign him would be Danny's next move.  Bird rights are helpful too, but not nearly sufficient in this case.

But I am certain that Danny's thought more than one move ahead on this.
