Brian Windhorst of ESPN is reporting that Eddy Curry is all but signed with the Miami Heat

The 7'0 Ceter out of Thornwood was the 4th overall pick in the 2001 draft

Posting career averages of 13.3ppg + 5.3rpg this will be a low budget high reward for Miami who need some big bodys to fill up the lane

Ugh.  Best low-cost center on the market.  Not a huge difference maker, but likely to be better than whoever we have starting for the 60+ games JO is hurt.

EDIT:  Brain spasm.  I was thinking Kwame Brown.  Easy to get the two big man busts confused.  Eddy Curry is a smart gamble, but I'd put him below Kwame.

If this and Battier are true GREAT job by Pat Riley while danny continues to land a deal that seems like the sort to gut our team
Miami isn't going to need much at center with the rest of team.  Add a vet min guard who can bring the ball up and play some d and they are ready.

As if the Heat wasn't dislikeable enough.

It's like they sat in a room and said "Well we just brought in Shane Battier.  That might gain us a modicum of respectability and we just can't have that"

"Yeah! We gotta have people throw up at the idea of playing us. It's a huge advantage"

"Let's get Curry".

"Problem solved"

Really? Curry has played 75 minutes over the last 3 seasons. Guy's cooked.

Best low-cost center on the market?  Really? Is Curry even better than Semih?

Yeah, sorry, see my edit above.

Although Curry still very well could be better than whatever piece of flotsam we pick up to start for us.

What are the odds that Eddy Curry eats Shane Battier before the All-Star Break?

Those back-to-back nights, Eddy is going to be hungry.

See my edit, but I'd take Curry over Semih, as well as Fesenko and a lot of the other no-upside stiffs we're linked to.  Curry, at least, has legitimate talent.

I agree nice moves by Pat Riley, but I don't know that I agree with your take on what Danny has been doing.

Miami was a contender last year, and will continue to be a contender for years. They really only need to tinker around the edges.

Boston is in a very different situation. The window on the Big Three is closing very quickly, and I think it is really good business for Danny to be searching for younger All-Star talent. It isn't available all that often, and so you have to pounce when it is (if you are in rebuild, or close to rebuild -- Boston is in close to rebuild territory).
Celtics fan for life.

I'd put him well below Baby.

First, I'm not sure that BBD will count as "low cost", at least to teams only with the mini-MLE.

Second, though, as a starting center I'd probably gamble on Curry on a minimum deal.  BBD is too weak as a rebounder and as an inside scorer, and he can't block shots.

I'm with koz.  There's a chance Curry could have some sort of miraculous return to what he was 4 or 5 years ago, but right now he's probably worse than whatever's left of Big Z.
