Sports Illustrated is saying that the c's are currently last in the CP3 trade race because Paul has said he won't sign an extension here, but it makes no since for him financially to resign until the season is over anyways ....

Talks slow, but California teams leading race for All-Star Paul

No decision has been made by New Orleans about where to send point guard Chris Paul, but a source with a good read on the talks puts the list of leaders for his services as such: the Lakers, Clippers and Warriors. There are other teams making a push, among them Dallas and Houston, but there are no indications that they're being seriously considered by Hornets general manager Dell Demps.

But the situation doesn't begin and end with the Hornets' intentions, since Paul's perspective on where he might agree to stay long-term is a major factor. The Celtics, for example, have the assets (Rajon Rondo) and the incentive, but sources close to Paul says he has no interest in a long-term future in Boston and that reality might have moved the Celtics to the back of this pack.

Also not sure if this is news to anyone, of course they will have to trade for him without an extension, he isn't going to sign one with any team he goes to until the end of the season so he can make the max contract.

According to sources, the Hornets expressed interest in trading Chris Paul to the Warriors and they engaged in talks. There hasn't been an expectation of anything getting done from Golden State's perspective because of the understanding that Paul wouldn't sign off on an extension.

But there is a circumstance in which the Warriors would be willing to trade for Paul as a rental and that would be if Monta Ellis went to New Orleans in return.

Retaining Curry would allow the Warriors to preserve their best trade chip and he could also possibly play shooting guard beside Paul.

Trading Curry and Tyson Chandler to the Magic for Dwight Howard could be a possibility at a later date.

i think the SI thing is not just regurgitating the bit of info that paul won't sign an extension -- he won't do that anywhere.

the implication of the SI report, i believe, is that chris paul has expressed that he has no interest at all in a long term future in boston.  in other words, he's sending out signals that there's no way the C's would be able to convince him to stay beyond this year.

i still have to think danny would go for it, but i guess we'll see.  if the clippers are putting the t-wolves pick in play along with their other assets (minus eric gordon) it might be a moot point anyway.

The Hornets would have to be nuts to trade CP3 for Ellis.

The SI report is a bit fishy to me.  Amick seems to be a guy the C's have been leaking a lot of info to this year, and I am getting the feeling this may be a plant.

The reality is, if Curry and Gordon aren't on the table, then the C's probably do have the best offer on the table.  However, it sounds like the Hornets are dragging their feet, hoping someone else will sweeten the pot.  So, I think this story might be the C's laying the groundwork for a "take the offer before we come to our senses" push.

i hope you're right.

i can't help thinking, though, that if the celtics make a trade for paul it will involve some 3rd team, perhaps one we haven't even heard about.

It will be interesting to see when players signed can be traded, and when the deadline is.

I also think it needs to be pointed out that Amick is not really claiming that the C's offer is in last place in NO eyes, he is suggesting that the C's are getting cold feet.  I don't buy it.

yeah, that's what bothered me about it too.  wouldn't make sense to get this far only to pull back now just because chris paul has said "no really guys, im not going to re-sign with you."

danny is too smart to think that it take anything less than a full season and a good taste of success and tradition to make paul even consider re-signing here.

Danny Ainge getting cold feet in trade talks? The guy would trade his wife if he could find a suitable upgrade.
