I think the Bulls should've pursued him.

yeh i dont understand as well, he probably wouldve started in Chicago compare to ATL

and he could provide them a scoring option they need in the SG

really dont understand why he went to ATL
My guess is that the Hawks were willing to guarantee him minutes and a role.

Thibs won't give him such a guarantee, not with his defensive short comings.

I'm guessing that Atlanta figures to let Jamal Crawford walk. As Crawford's replacement, McGrady gets to jack up as many shots as he wants to every night off the bench. Atlanta is good enough to make the playoffs in the East, so he gets to play on a "winner" as well.

Little expectations/little pressure for McGrady in Atlanta. In Chicago, he'd have to fit into the starting lineup (defer to Rose) and deal with a lot more scrutiny/pressure.

There's talk of a potential Jamal Crawford sign-and-trade to Chicago for a package including Ronnie Brewer.

Quote
Tracy McGrady has agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks for the veteran-minimum, according to a source.

McGrady played for the Pistons last season, starting in 39 of the 72 games in which he appeared.

McGrady will presumably replace the bench scoring provided by Jamal Crawford.

Good signing for ATL... Somewhat surprised that T-Mac jumped so early to sign a vet min contract.  I take it that he didn't think he could get more money elsewhere and Atlanta is his preferred destination?  What's the appeal in Atlanta?  He's from the middle of Florida, so not hometown?  It's not minutes since he'll be coming off the bench.  What is it?

If they really go into the season with just Teague and Hinrich at the PG spot, I wouldnt be surprised if Tmac ended up getting starters minutes.  He could see 20 mins a game at point, and another 10-15 as a backup wing.  I know they want to try to groom teague into their PG of the future, but if tmac starts trashing him in practice and is a steady hand at point like he was in detroit, he could steal that spot.  Tmac at 50% is already more versatile than Teague at 100%.

Good signing for the Hawks....
At the vet min, for a team like the Hawks, it is basically a no brainer.
