C's interested in signing Mike Dunleavy

and over on realgm boards someone said he saw Dunleavy at the airport in Boston.

I work at the airport, just met him checking in to fly home
didn't know he was a fee agent until after I said hi, so I didn't think to ask him
nothing confirmed, just a guess....thought I'd pass it along for whatever it's worth

edit: there is no way he is 6'9 either

I guess he would be ok for the vet min , likely to replace Jeff Green if the Chris Paul trade goes downn.

Poor man's Mike Miller? Might not be awful for the min. And I would love some extra shooting at the three. Not so sure about that defense, though.

Just another reason why I am convinced this team will be parting ways with Jeff Green whether through trading him with Rondo or encouraging him to go out and sign elsewhere. Celtics seem to be rumored to be going after every SF free agent out there, all which would cost significantly less than the $5.9 million Green would be getting if he takes the QO.

Dunleavy is okay. He was real good a few years back before his injury but now, he would make a passable backup wing for little money.

Why is it every time a SF is mentioned people automatically assume we are getting rid of JG? I could swear they brought JG here to play his more natural spot, the 3, last time I checked, PF is the 4... to me it seems more like BBD will sign and be traded or just walk away...

No, I think they are preparing to find a replacement to be the swing man of the bench because Green is a more attractive piece in a big trade.

They brought Green here because he was the only asset they could get at the trading line last year for Perkins who they were not going to extend for the money he was asking and were not going to have him move on this summer without getting something. They got Green, tried him out, and extended his qualifying offer so that if they decided he wouldn't be a long term cornerstone, they still own his rights and can trade him now and get something in return.

This idea people have that they brought him in to be a part of the future or get significant future playing time is wrong, IMHO. They traded for him to extend the length of time of holding onto an asset. If he came in last year and played like gangbusters, then maybe the C's extend him, but he didn't. He played rather poorly.

Green's qualifying offer is $5.9 million. He'll be asking for more than that per year long term. Nothing he has shown demonstrates he is worth that kind of money.

That's why the Celtics are looking at other small forwards. They don't see him being here either this year or in the future because he's a bench player in quality(or a starter on a bad team) and are not going to vastly overpay for him and ruin their chance at having enough money for two max free agents next summer.

If Green is here this year its only because he takes the qualifying offer and the Celtics are forced to keep him here all year.

id be okay with dunleavy, though his defense would drive doc crazy (take note of how difficult it was for troy murphy to get off the bench last season).

If you think the Celtics are deciding whether to keep or get rid of Green based on his half-season and playoff performance last year, you're wrong.  The mere fact that Doc continued to play him as he struggled last season says they see some value in him beyond being an "asset".

Nothing against Dunleavy but if he's taking greens spot at backup sf then we are in trouble.  I'd rather sasha or daniels as 3rd string sf.  He just has too many holes in his game to help us, he'd improve outside shooting but he'd get killed trying to guard the sf in the east.

if he is our main backup to pierce? not a good thing, we'd grind pierce into the ground
dunleavy's foot speed is bad, sasha and marquis play much better defense, sasha can hit the outside shots
i just think if mike is signed its a step back at our current strongest posistion, as someone put it murphy couldn't do much on defense last year and he's just a taller version of dunleavy

I'd be happy for dunleavy for the vet min.  Its crazy thinking hes a vet min guy tho.  I remember him being a pretty good scorer a few years back.
