  • Rondo = Good
The two teams reportedly pushing hardest for Chris Paul are the Celtics and the Rockets.

The Rockets have a roster laden with a lot of very solid young prospects, and they have some picks to throw out too, I think.  Still, I have a hard time seeing the Rockets being able to field a better offer than the Celtics, or even a Eric Gordon-less offer from the Clippers.

However, I know that Morey and Ainge are friends, and I have to think Morey appreciates the effect a facilitator like Rondo could have on the Rockets' offense.  Rondo would seem to be a pretty good consolation prize for the Rockets in the CP3 sweepstakes.

Can you envision a way that the Rockets could be brought in as the 3rd team in a CP3 trade?

CP3 ends up in Boston, the Rockets providing assets and picks in addition to what Boston can offer (Green, Davis, Clippers pick, Avery Bradley) to New Orleans.  Could something along those lines work?  Which assets would the Rockets add?  I'm thinking Lowry, Patterson, and a pick would be a given, but I'm not sure what else.

Also, one of the teams (probably the Celtics) would have to take on either Ariza or Okafor.

The Rockets have nothing to compare to the high-level assets in play - Rondo, the minny pick, Gordon, Curry.
2016 CelticsBlog Draft: Chicago Bulls

Head Coach: Fred Hoiberg

Starters: Rubio, Danny Green, Durant, Markieff Morris, Capela
Bench: Sessions, Shumpert, G. Green, T. Booker, Frye
Deep Bench: CJ Watson, H. Thompson, P. Zipser, Papagiannis, Mejri

again, as i said in my post about the pacers, any discussion of the celtics and a 3rd team trading for paul assumes that gordon and curry aren't getting moved, because those guys are more valuable (from the hornets' perspective) than anybody the celtics or a 3rd team could offer.

the minnesota pick . . . eh, i think the value of that might be overstated.  i think there's good reason to think the t-wolves won't be quite as awful this year.  so that'll be a lottery pick for sure, but i would bet it won't be a top 5 pick.

Thats a tough one, What would the rockets give up for rondo? i think if rockets provided draft picks and took on okafors contract would work out.

NO gets lowry, T.williams, jeff green,Patterson, thabeet 1st round pick from houston and 1st round clippers pick

Hou gets rondo, okafor, and Ariza

Bos gets chris paul

New orleans starts the rebuilding process they get picks and free up cap space plus patterson is a nice project

houston gets a solid rotation with rondo martin ariza scola and okafor. plus their rookies morris and the other european player with the weird name.

dont know if rockets do this trade though dont know their current cap they take on some bad contracts maybe ariza  gets the amensty clause i know they really need a center over there and okafor is pretty solid

First of all, I have no idea what the Hornets are thinking. They'd rather have Gordon or Curry than Rondo? That might be one of the most ignorant things I've heard. Rondo's taking some unnecessary heat, considering he's no worse than the 3rd best point guard in the league.

Now onto your post, I can see it, but I doubt it will happen. While the Rockets do want Paul, I doubt they'll get him. The package of players their offering isn't bad, but it does the Hornets no good. Martin and Scola are nice, do nothing for a team that is going to rebuild. Would the Hornets be interested in guys like Budinger, Lowry, Patterson? Possibly, but they can get better deals elsewhere. It's tough to know what anyone in that front office is thinking.

i think the issue is that for a rebuilding team, a lot of GMs (or at least the Hornets GM) don't see Rondo as the 3rd best pg in the league.

also, i have a hunch that curry / gordon are kind of irrelevant, anyway, because i think their names have been included in rumors to drive up the price for other suitors.  the clippers and the warriors probably wouldn't risk giving up cornerstone guys like that for what could be a one year rental of CP3.

Which is mind boggling to me. I'll leave it along though because I could argue for Rondo for days. Don't think there's a big drop off between him and CP3 and actually think Rondo overtook him last year (with Rose leapfrogging the both of them).

According to Wojo (easily one of the best around) the Warriors offer is centered around Curry and Thompson. I don't think Gordon was ever included to be honest. Makes more sense from the Clippers standpoint to keep him and still be able to put an enticing offer to the Hornets.

I think that would a real nice cost effective addition for Houston.
