What up Yall!

Lets get straight to the news!;

"According to CSNNE's Carolyn Manno and A. Sherrod Blakely, the Celtics have signed free-agent SF Gilbert Brown of Pitt. Manno tweeted the news about 30 minutes ago, and followed with another message stating that Brown would arrive in Boston tonight or tomorrow and would be in camp on Friday."

This is a great signing :D! I really liked this guy and he could very well end up being a "Poor mans" Tony Allen!
This btw also gives us younger legs!

The signing may be inevitable, but I'm 99% sure that teams still can't sign free agents, or even agree to terms with them, yet.

TP for the update.

Always fun to see at least a little bit of concrete news and there are things to like about Brown, but chances are he won't be on the roster in a couple weeks.

Oh well, there's still time to be optimistic and think that his freakish athleticism will translate to the NBA level and he will end up being a cornerstone for the future! ;-)

That reporter is about to cost himself some good will with the team when they are fined for talking to players too early. Hope it's not a guaranteed contract.

i doubt it's actually signed yet, since teams can't do that.  and i imagine he has a deal with them to come to training camp, but he may very well get cut in training camp.

Correct me if I'm wrong, teams were allowed to speak to players starting yesterday.

Yes, but you can't sign anybody. The new CBA isn't even in effect yet so I don't know how we could have signed him. The NBPA will vote and agree to the new CBA sometime tomorrow, according to the reports.

Sorry I mistyped they would cost themselves good will for reporting a signing. Teams are allowed to talk with players or agents just not come to agreements verbal or signed.

How could you have not heard of him?  He is already being mentioned as a "..poor man's Tony Allen..".    :)

The original quote seems to misrepresent what Blakely and Manno were reporting.  See the front page:  this is a camp invite, rather than a full-fledged signing.

Brown is worth a look.  I don't expect him to stick, but if he does, fantastic.

No surprise they reported this before the lockout. We were debating taking him in the draft. I expect him to be on the roster. He came to Boston for the "orientation" with JaJuan and E'Twan before the the lockout.

He has really long arms and is decent spot up shooter but is supposedly one of the better college defenders last year.  Both he and Matt Howard should have been brought in for a look.  Howard is playing in Greece now though.
