A day or two ago, it looked like battier was destined for south beach.

Not so fast:

http://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/shane_battier_has_the_celtics_on_his_short_list/8554174

As many of us have said before, he would be a great fit here. The article alludes to the intangibles that players consider when choosing a team, and we have plenty of them.

Anyway we sign and trade BBD to Memphis to join his buddy TA, so we can attract battier with more $$$ or are we stuck offering him our puny $3mil MLE?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Here is the original piece, from SI.com:

Quote from: Per Sam Amick
Of all the free-agency conversations to eavesdrop on, I'd pick the ones between Shane Battier, Grant Hill and their respective suitors. Both players are as bright as they come in the league, and you can bet they had plenty of sharp and pressing questions as they talked to team officials Monday.

Both small forwards are well-respected veterans with plenty left to offer, and sources close to both players say they have yet to make up their minds. While Hill has said the chances are good that he'll return to Phoenix, he has narrowed his list to the Suns, Knicks, Bulls and Spurs, with the Warriors, Celtics and Clippers trailing. The Knicks would seem unlikely, however, as sources have said New York is offering only one-year deals in order to preserve salary-cap space for next summer when Paul, Howard and Nets point guard Deron Williams might be available as free agents.

Battier's list still includes the Heat, Spurs, Pacers, Raptors, Grizzlies, Celtics and his former Memphis team. The Thunder have also had discussions with either Battier or his camp. The team-to-player conversations might matter more with players like these than with so many others, as a clear understanding of roles, goals and, of course, financial incentive will come into play.

I'd love either guy, but looks like Celtics are on the outside looking in with Hill.

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

Boy he has been on my list of guys I'd love to see in green for years.
If he is signed where would we fit pierce, battier and green or would green be moved for a big?

 ::) I don't know if I consider a list of 7 teams being a "short" list.

But at least we're being considered, so that makes me smile.

Exactly, bdm, which is why I had quotation marks around it.

love to have battier but ya what about green? I dont want to bring in a battier, prince, hill etc. so green can play backup 4.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I love Shane Battier, but what's the point, really? The backup 3 is literally the only position where we are, presumably, set. We don't want Green playing the 4 because he can't play defense there, yet he's a perfect backup 3. I'd much rather give our resources to a big or small instead of beefing up an already solid position.

Shane's great, but I'm not sure he's what we really need.

I believe both Battier an Hill can guard the 2. Battier is known as one of the better Kobe defenders in the league so he probably was playing the two those games.

I dont like this guy for the MLE..
First of all HE IS OLD!
Second he isnt really worth more than 2.5 at this point of his career.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

if you're gonna push hard to trade for Chris Paul, then the Battier signing looks great.

If we stay content with Rondo and are essentially bringing back our roster from last season, sticking with Green I think, is the better choice.

I think we need a LeBron or Deng stopper before we worry about Kobe.

Battier can play at the two as a reserve. He guarded all the best perimeter players whether they were 2s or 3s for the most part in Houston. He only guarded 3s in Memphis because TA was there and I actually remember TA guarding Durant and Battier on Harden. On offense he spreads the floor so he can definitely be the 2 and Green the 3.
