For a guy who averaged 7 and 7 last season?  I see the guy's potential, but a certain Mark Blount also showed potential for half a season...

I think this is a risky contract to offer.  And reports are that he might turn it down and look for a bigger offer!  What are the chances he outplays even the current one on the table?  I don't see how a player gets over $8M who has almost no chance at cracking the top 5 centers in the league over that time.

that is a good deal for the Clippers.  I don't think he signs for that.

Fair offer. Not paying much for potential.

D.Jordan should look elsewhere for a better deal. He should be looking at $45-50 million over 5 years.

Because $8million doesn't get you top 5.

$8 million gets you middle of the pack. Somewhere between #12 and #18.

If you want top five player at a position, a minimal payment of $12-15 million is required.

I think people are considering this offer "fair" only in consideration of how generally outrageous contract offers have been to mediocre players over the past 5-10 years.

Not paying much for potential?  We paid Blount approx that much for potential he showed one half season and that became one of the more notorious contracts of this era when he didn't pan out.  With a now harder cap, couldn't this be potentially even more damaging if Jordan doesn't pan out?

I agree that he could get more.  For a 22 year old, near 7 footer, with ridiculous athleticism, thats gotten better every year he's been in the league...8 mil a year would probably be a steal.  If he was 28 I'd say 8 mil might be a bit much considering how he'd play in the out years, but at 22...the last year of the deal he could be entering his prime getting 15pts, 11rebs +2.5 blocks in 35 mins, looking like the biggest steal of the league.

Here's my opinion... $8M per year is very fair value IF he pans out.  I see almost no chance in him outplaying that contract.  And I see some risk that he could not pan out and underplay that contract.  I'd want at least some upside in my contract offer.

the amount that centers get paid proportionate to their production is truly mind-boggling.

if deandre jordan makes $8-10 million a year, dwight howard should make roughly $100 million a year.

Am I mistaken or have I heard this a lot before... The outcome hasn't very often been that 15pt 11reb monster...

Gotten better every year he's been in the league?  He went from 4 and 5 his rookie year to 4 and 5 his sophmore year with slightly less blocks in 2 MORE minutes.  Then a jump to 7 and 7 with a 9 mpg increase.

you might not give it to them, but considering the reports of what teams are considering giving marc gasol / tyson chandler / nene, i doubt NBA general managers are of the same mind.

DeAndre Jordan put up 7 and 7 in just under 26 minutes a game last season. He is a fairly average defensive player. He is also a freak athlete who has made considerable progress over the past year or so.

Even if he only marginally improves on where he is now, D.Jordan should become a double-double guy (in 32-34mpg) with above average defense. That type of player is worth $8-10 million.

If D.Jordan goes on to fulfill the potential many people think he has, he becomes a double-double guy with All-League level defense (Tyson Chandler level). That player is worth $11-13 million.

And if ever developed his offensive game ....

I see little chance that DeAndre Jordan fails to live up to a $40million five year deal. Good contract.

It is going to take a while before players and fans realize that.
