Soo.. there's 4 days until we can start sign/trade players, and at the moment the rumor machines are getting overheated. In the middle of the Rondo for paul rumors (which I hate cuz Rondo is the one who keeps this team togheter, trade him means trade umbuntu.. if [trading] Perk hurt us that much, how much would this?) then I started thinking of...wait for it... O.J. Mayo. It's not the first time anyone brings the former 3d overall pick up playing in a green jersey..repping beantown that is.

I KNOW many of you guys don't like him and blahblahblaah.. But if we're trading for anyone, it should be for this dude. He's young, not perfect, but a good player who is still learning and under the right mentoring (Doc, Ray, Rondo..) could would become a GREAT player.

Not the freshest vid. out there (from 2010).. But this kid, as I said, being coached by Doc and possibly mentored by RayTrey, can become a solid player in the future, and also, can start in the end of the regular season to rest Ray/Paul and so on...

A sign and trade: BBD+Pick (or Rondo, if you add a third team, and another PG.. make your own proposal.. I hate it tho)

Thoughts ?

Doc's gonna tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

People here don't like him because he hogs. I can't judge but I'd welcome the scoring for sure. I'm also all for not trading Rondo.

Well as we all know he is a ballhog but I think he's willing to learn and change. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders and I think he would really do well in Boston. Being on the Celtics would almost certainly raise his level of play.

I just don't know how the deal would work since we don't have very many trade chips. I don't think it's going to happen or even really be discussed by Ainge and Wallace.

Not a two guard.

A setup scoring PG or a combo guard off the bench ala Ben Gordon (except not as good).

Ball stopping , non defending locker room issue that doesn't fill a need.

While he may not fill as big a need as a big man, this team absolutely has a need for a guy who can step in right away as a PG or SG, and could be a longterm answer at the SG position.

As far as the other stuff goes, I agree, those are issues.  But those are also the only way you will get a guy with this kind of talent without giving up ridiculous value.

He is still a very young guy, and could benefit from a change of scenery and teammates.  He has time to turn his career around and be a special player.  Unfortunately, I don't think there is an easy match for him.

Um... OJ Mayo is NOT a ball hog.  I don't know where this talk comes from.  Last year was the first time I saw him significantly and he was very unselfish.  Maybe he was a ball hog in the past, but he's not a selfish player anymore.  He averages 3 assists per game which is around what Ray Allen averages in Boston.  He is a bit undersized though.  He's 1-2 inches shorter than a prototypical shooting guard at 6'4.5 in shoes and 6'6 wingspan.  But he's an efficient scorer he shoots 44% from the field, 38% from 3 and 83% at the FT line.  He also gets 16-17 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds and a steal with 2 turnovers.

Being a ball stopper is different from being a ball hog, he got dimes from getting himself in trouble and being fortunate enough to play with ZBo and Gasol who he could throw it to in the vicinity of the basket. Memphis' offense and defense improved greatly when they buried him behind Sam Young/Conley/TA/ Vasquez. He played well during the playoffs, but that was an abberation to his three years in the league.

This team needs a long term solution at every position but PG. I don't want to be locked into OJ Mayo for how ever many years just because we need to solve 5 problems next year and this could maybe, but probably not, be a solution to one of them.

OJ Mayo could not be the long term answer at SG. He cannot come even remotely close to being able to defend or rebound his position.

He is an absolute liability as a starting two guard.

The type of player who typically commands more than they're worth to your team. He's got the potential to be a good sixth man if he settles into the combo scorer off the bench, but his salary demands will be in excess of what that's worth.

Not to mention that he brings the boo-ray drama.
