Miami are thought to be looking at Restricted Center Greg Oden.

Oden who hasnt played for almost 2 years is thought to be on Miami's radar.

Oden who has a qualifying offer on the table from the Blazers has been out of action for almost 2 seasons with knee problems

It would take Portland about 30 seconds to match an MLE offer, I think.

But Heat president Pat Riley is known for his powers of persuasion and last year convinced free agent after free agent to take less money to sign in Miami. Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller all took less money than they were offered elsewhere.

Pat Riley's power of persuasion? Hardly...those 3 had already decided to play together.

Miami don't have enough money to sign Oden.

8.9 vs 5 million...that's a no brainer for him.

Yep.  I agree, I think he'd assume he could earn more than $11.1 million in the next three years.  Even if he wanted to play in Miami, though, Portland wouldn't let it happen.  I bet they're praying that he signs such a modest qualifying offer, though.

Or, worse for Miami, they could take the maximum amount of time, keeping Miami out of the running for other players.

Under the new CBA, don't you get like 3 days to match any offer? Or do I have it wrong?

I believe it's been reduced to 3 days from 7 days so teams aren't handcuffed waiting for so long.

I hope it's impossible.  Granted Odens an injury risk, but when he actually was on the court, he looked like he was on his way to being a force.  If he can bring down the fouls and stay on the floor longer, he'll be a beast.  I dont want him anywhere near the Heat.

it's a good thing Oden is a restricted free agent.  Portland will almost certainly match any MLE offer, but if Greg were unrestricted I wouldn't be all that surprised if he took a few million less per year to have a chance to play on the Heat.
