I dont see what the big deal is.  I mean...Do you guys all pay the full MSRP for the cars you buy too?  These are just the initial asking prices.  It would make no sense for a player to initially ask for a price he thought was fair value...that would undermine the whole negotiation.  You ask for 20, receive a counter offer of 13, and finally settle at 14-15, where both sides are relatively happy.  If I was Chandler, and my agent opened the bidding at 14mil a year I'd fire him immediately.

So I guess that Dwight would command 25-30 mil, then.

smh....

And if Hakeem Olajuwon, Bill Russell or Kareem time-warped to this year Lord knows how much they'd command ;D.

Let me clarify - I listed those three because I think only the greatest players EVER would have the right to ask that much.

I understand the rationale behind it, but come on man there's got to be another way to negotiate.

Unless Dallas hears $20 million and says "you know what, I'd rather have Nene for a little more than half of that", and quickly moves on.  Sometimes, it's possible for players to price themselves out of the market.

It's amazing what a championship can do for you financially.

He'll probably get $15 million or so if he doesn't care what team he goes to

They're not the ones asking for it, their agents are...And, by the way, why the hell not? The league is starving for quality centers, and if Bynum and Boozer get the kind of money that they do, why shouldn't these guys?

Marc Gasol or Chandler have the power to make Miami or New York championship teams just by going there, much like with Dallas.

this is the kind of thinking that caused us all to miss the first month and a half of the nba season

C'mon now, just like Latrell, I'm sure Tyson has a family to feed.  ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Don't get your panties in too much of a twist.
He knows he ain't getting 20 million.
Gotta start high and who knows, maybe the Nets will bite if Nene and Gasol are taken by better teams?
I reckon he'll end up on something like 14-15 million.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

he is coming off a great season in which he was a piece of a championship team.  whynot try and cash in?!  if someone is stupid enough to give it to him, thats on them.  players start high, teams start low, thats the way it is when negotiating.

This is exactly right. He can ask for whatever he wants and if he gets it shame on his new employer. It's time these owners start holding their ground and staying close to the the pricetag of their intial assessment despite the market.

Anyone who could cash in would in all probablity.  I don't blame him for testing the market.  I am sure he will use many team's interest to raise his price too.
