If you believe the REALGM headline article:

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/216948/Howard_Paul_Have_Big_Financial_Incentive_To_Be_Traded_Before_Deadline

that both Howard and Paul are likely to be traded before the deadline, based on the premise that they can only get maximum dollars by signing with the team that has their Bird-rights, I don't think the Celtics or many other teams, if any, have the assets to acquire both players via trade without completely eviscerating their current team.

Given this, it seems that teams can acquire via trade CP3 or Dwight Howard but highly unlikely to be able to trade for both.

What do you do if you are the Celtics? Do you trade Rondo for a possible rental of DH or CP3, hoping that you can somehow pry the other away from an additional $25-$30 million and the team that they were traded to, but with the likelihood of keeping the one you traded for? Or do you keep Rondo?

I am confused and haven't voted yet.

I say Howard. It's really hard to find a dominant center in the NBA today. Point guards are more plentiful and while Rondo couldn't be replaced, we could find a capable PG easier than finding a capable C.

Howard plays the most important position, so I'd choose him.  However, Orlando wouldn't trade D12 for Rondo.  Therefore, CP3 is the next best option.

  • Rondo = Good
oh boy it's not even close.

DH12 please . . . he'd win MVP playing on this team.  We'd have a very good chance at a championship even if Delonte were running the point.

Like Roy said, though, there's no way we have what it takes to trade for Howard.

Rondo.

Don't let the name fool you.  It's actually an interactive fantasy basketball game where the only objective of the game is to acquire Dwight Howard or Chris Paul.  If you don't find a way to do that, you lose the game.

Howard sort of has an excuse for horrid free throw shooting and I'm way less worried about his knees

DH is my vote, too. How about a three-way?

Anyway that we can entice an Indiana or someone who covets Rondo who can contribute the pieces that Orlando would bite on?

For example: We get DH, Indiana gets Rondo and a S&T BBD and/or Green and JO and Orlando gets Hibbert, Granger, Rush, Hiil, our Clips pick and our #1 this year or some variation therof.

A similar trade works on RealGM trade checker, but because I can't figure out if/how you figure in S&Ts, I substituted Ray's salary for the S&T'd Davis/Green combined, figuring it was close, and it worked:

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5931400

So the trade breakdown would be like this:

Orlando gets:Hibbert, Granger, Hill and Rush. our Clips pick and our #1 this year.

Indiana gets: Rondo, BBD, Green and JO.

Celts get: DH

Do the Pacers and Magic bite?

Any other teams out there who could facilitate this?
