Chris Sheridan names his top five hidden gems of free agency, and a couple of them seem like they could help Boston but haven't been mentioned on CB (not that I've seen, anyway). Find the full list here: http://sheridanhoops.com/2011/12/01/nba-free-agency-hidden-gems/#more-2578

Quote
1. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Bucks (Restricted)

Every team needs a defensive stopper, correct? (Yes, even you, Mike D’Antoni). Mbah a Moute is the one guy out there this fall who can bring what Allen brought to the Grizzlies last season, and there is a chance the Bucks will not match because of the investment they have already made in Drew Gooden (four years and $26 million remaining on his contract) and their bigger need for a backup center to play behind Andrew Bogut.

4. D.J. Mbenga, Hornets (Unrestricted)

Centers usually cost extra to acquire — that is one of the unwritten rules of free agency that is time-tested. Mbenga is one of the most imposing physical specimens ever to don an NBA uniform, and if you need a guy (at a fraction of the cost of a Dalembert or Chandler) to block shots, rebound and give a hard foul here or there, fewer are better qualified than Mbenga, who has a black belt in judo and could kick the ass of any NBA player in a fight, according to Andrew Kamenesky.   (He also speaks five languages: English, French, Portuguese, Lingala and Tshiluba.)

What do you guys think?
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Mbenga is an absolute scrub. If he is playing as a primary reserve, your team is in trouble.

I like Mbah a Moute, but he doesn't fit a need if we bring Jeff Green back.

both those guys are D League scrubs. If boston settles for one of them...then they will struggle to win the atlantic

Very weak article by Chris Sheridan.

Hidden gems? Please. Mbah a Moute is the rotation worthy player on the list. The other four are all third stringers (well, to be fair, Redd is more of a question mark than an out and out third stringer) to borderline NBA players.

  • Rondo = Good
Mbah a Moute is a nice player if you don't need any offense.  Not really a need for this team.

What happened to all the Oden hype that arose a few months ago?
You are no longer black, or brown, or yellow, or red! You are now GREEN, you are light GREEN, or dark GREEN!

Unless of course you traded Allen to Dal for Chandler, then he would be an excellent pick up to fill the wing with pierce, green and maybe marquise.
then again, Redd and Marquise backing up the wing is REALLY rolling the dice.

Redd is cooked.

Everything I've seen from Mbenga suggests he's a big, stiff oaf with no basketball skills. I'm sure he's in great shape and everything, but that doesn't make him useful.

Evans is not even an NBA player. Sure, he has one NBA caliber skill. But he's so atrocious in doing everything else that you just can't justify having him in the lineup.

Nick Young please! An effective yet cheap scorer.

N.Young would add some nice firepower to Boston's new-found defensive + rebounding strength.

DJ Mbenga can rebound nd block shots?? since when he's one of the worst centers in the league would much rather have Aaron Gray the center position has lost its luster man

  • You say when......
Well Caron Butler is avail also..a UConn guy ...behind Ray..that is a STRONG 1-2 punch.....they can easily split the minutes....ego for who starts..i know....or is butler a 3...split with PP the same...Butler won't like 2nd shift though..i still say Battier..or a rebounder should be job #1...

Nick Young is a restricted free agent and we would only have the minimum to offer. He would be a great scorer off the bench but the 3 mil goes to a C then the rest are min guys unfortunately.

How are we supposed to get Young? He will want a lot of money after padding his stats on a depleted wizards team last season.
