I'm not sure how this all works on paper or whatever but why didn't Danny try getting D Will instead of Cp3?

Still can go after D-Will right?  Even more now so.

It doesn't say that he's not going to re-sign with the Nets, it sounds like he can get more money by opting out and re-signing.

Exactly. It makes no sense for any of these guys to sign an extension as part of their current contract. That's why when I heard CP3 wouldn't sign an extension here as part of the trade I was like DUH. He would opt out and then resign.

I believe that it does work on paper and am all for it.

I think health-wise DWill is a better risk than CP3 (knee issues are always problematic).

In REALGM Trade-Checker, Rondo and JO for DWill works:

I would prefer to include Davis rather than JO, and his full MLE would about equate to JO's salary. Also, NJ is one of Davis' preferred destinations.

I do RR and BBD for DWill in a heartbeat. The question is: will the Nets?

  • Rondo = Good
I still think D-Will is gonna be with the Nets long term.  As others have said, this just means Deron will do what Paul Pierce did last summer, which is opt out of his deal and sign a long term one for big bucks.  Under the new CBA, he won't be able to extend his current deal that way.

Would the Nets trade two first rounders, Devin Harris, and Derrick Favors for Rondo and change?

Just because he is opting out does not mean he won't resign.  He can sign a much bigger deal by opting out than signing an extension, so there is no reason for him not to opt out.

I listened to the interview. Sounds like he wants to stay with the Nets, they asked him at the end what percent that he'll stay in NJ, he answered 90%. Said his wife loves it there. He also mentioned he wants to do for the Nets in Brooklyn what Kidd did for them in NJ.

He is saying that would essentially be what the Nets would have given up for Rondo and wondered if they would have made that trade.  I don't think they would have, which means they aren't just going to trade Williams for Rondo unless Williams is walking out the door anyway.

This is exactly the lure to keep him there.  He gets to be the face of the franchise moving into the biggest market in the country which also happens to be starving for a professional franchise since the Dodgers left.  It would take one hell of a desire to win right away for an all-star player to walk away from that big a contract with so much merchandising and endorsement money to be made.

Deron said that there is a 90% chance that he resigns with the Nets. Added that opting out and resigning makes more financial sense :)

So i think Deron will stay a net.
