Quote
After winning an NBA Championship last season with the Dallas Mavericks, center Tyson Chandler doesn't think that he will be returning to the Mavericks for this upcoming season.

"I really think I'm going to be on a new team come training camp," Chandler told ESPN.com in a telephone interview Wednesday night. "I'm really taking a hard look at all of my options, trying to see what best suits me."
Chandler won't have to worry about finding a job as the 7-footer will be highly sought after by many teams around the league. He maintains that his first choice is still to remain in Dallas but has been disappointed by the lack in communication between the NBA Finals and the beginning of the lockout.

Wednesday was the first day that NBA teams and agents were allowed to begin talking about new contracts. Those teams thought to be chasing Chandler are Houston, Toronto, New Jersey and Golden State. The Mavericks have maintained that Chandler is their No. 1 priority but may simply not have the cap space to compete with other offers that Chandler will receive on the open market.

Lets hope that he goes to New Jersey and they pull out of the Howard race...

Can't Dallas re-sign him using bird rights to go over the cap?  Surely luxury tax expenditure isn't a problem for them.

Nah, I'm pretty sure Miami doesn't have any more money to throw at Tyson than Dallas does.

I imagine Miami will end up with Dalembert or some one like him.

Posturing.

Also, in terms of "lack of communication"...  wasn't there that whole lockout thing?

Posturing.

That was my initial Impression. Unless he has heard credible word that Dallas isn't going to offer him long term money to keep cap space for summer '12 and is turned off by that.

Yeahhh.

I agree, I think it's just posturing to put pressure on Dallas to give him a bigger / longer deal.

Pretty much, I'd be shocked if Dallas isn't trying to squeeze him down off the sort of pay day that other Cs have gotten in the past.

Yeah.  I dont think Houston is looking to upgrade by trading for a 30  year old, though.  I think Nene would make more sense for them.

I think Tyson Chandler would bring a lot more to the table for the Rockets than Nene. Houston already has players who can provide quality offense but the lack a player who can get them extra possessions + top tier interior defense.

It's not just their main cogs (K-Martin, Scola, Lowry), Houston have offensively talented role players too (Dragic, Budinger, Patterson, M.Morris). 4th in offensive efficiency last year. Bringing in a guy who can get them the ball and get those players extra shots, very valuable.

I think Tyson -- not only is the superior player vs Nene -- but that he complements that group of players already in Houston much better than Nene does.

Unless Boston gets him, which is highly unlikely, I want him to resign with Dallas.

Dallas would be crazy not too. His presence was the difference.

No way they get by the Lakers without his defensive presence.

I don't see why lack of cap space *this* year is all that big a deal. Chandler could sign a low 1 year contract with a team that doesn't have cap space this year, but will next year.  Then next year sign a big deal with them getting the money he wants. That would work for a number of teams...including the Mavs...or the Celtics.

He'd give up a little money, short term, but get it back down the road and be with a team that wants him and that he wants to be with. The only risk would be injury during his low contract year and that's what insurance is for.

No insurance policy will cover him for 20-30 million dollars he could lose if he signs a short term contract offer with the expectation of signing a bigger one next summer.

Man, I don't know if this is realistic or not, but I gave you a tommy point just for the suggestion.  If this is a strategy that could work to sweet talk Tyson Chandler into becoming a Celtic, maybe it could work on Nene or Marc Gasol as well.

I like to dream.
