Quote
As Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge aggressively pursues possible deals for Rajon Rondo, the Indiana Pacers have emerged as an intriguing suitor for the point guard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

For the past few days, Pacers officials – and third-party surrogates – have been making calls and gathering information and insight into Rondo’s reputation as a teammate and leader, sources said.

The Pacers and Celtics have discussed the preliminary framework of a deal, but two sources said Indiana would need a third team to provide Boston with the talent it wants to do a deal. The Celtics are likely trying to gather the necessary pieces to make a bid for Ainge’s ultimate target: New Orleans point guard Chris Paul, sources said.

It was unclear if the Pacers had begun to reach out to broaden discussions, but there was an expectation they would do so.

so do the pacers have the young talent New Orleans would want? Collison is pretty good, but the hornets just traded him to Indiana last year. Maybe Granger ?

This is going to get very interesting !

The Pacers do have Collison who performed well in place of Chris Paul in 2010 and makes cheap money. That combined with Paul George and maybe a pick or two could get it done:

Hornets get:
Collison
Paul George
Posey (final year waive)
Clippers pick via Celtics
Pacers 2012 first round pick
Celtics 2012 first round pick

Pacers get:
Rondo
Okafor
Big Baby

Celtics get:
Chris Paul

It'd be Granger. Many feel that George is a better fit and that Granger is done in Indiana.

I say:

Celtics get: CP3

Pacers get: Rondo

Hornets get: Granger, Collison, BBD

Picks would be thrown in too but for the most part Hornets don't want picks and old players they can waive, they want young talent.

This is going to be NUTS but I can't say I hate the suspense and everything along with the trade drama. The basketball junky in me actually enjoys it.  :-X

Even if the pacers agree to some sort of deal and NOH would take it as well couldn't CP3 deny the extension w/ us? How can we find out if he would even be open to coming here (perhaps find out tomorrow)

They are speculating that it will be collison and Hibbert and picks on the real gm board.

This would leave indy with a roster of rondo, george, granger, Hansboro and leave them enough money to go after nene (i believe)

NO Gets: Collison, Bradley, Hibbert, clippers pick, indy 2012 pick, boston 2012 pick

Bos gets cp3 and filler if necessary.

Looks like a pretty fair trade to me....

Getting CP3 would be great but what's the point if he doesn't sign an extension with us? All the reports seem to converge on the fact that he really intends to sign with NY next summer...

I don't think Indiana is willing to part with Granger.

They are looking to add pieces alongside him. Not trade him.

Boston
Paul

Indiana
Rondo

New Orleans
Collison
George
Stephenson
Baby Davis (S & T)
2012 1st Rd Pick (Boston)
2012 1st Rd Pick (Indiana)
2014 1st Rd Pick (Indiana)

Boston gets Paul while giving up Rondo, a 1st Rd Pick (not the coveted Clippers one), and Baby (who will likely not be part of future plans anyways).

Indiana gets Rondo while not giving up their nucleus of Hibbert and Granger.

New Orleans would be in full rebuilding mode and re-acquire Collison, two young high upside swingmen (George & Stephenson), Baby (who would replace the likely departed West and went to college in Louisiana), and 3 first rd draft picks.

Not awful, but I think the Celtics will have to part with the Clippers pick. There needs to be a lot of value leaving the Celtics going to New Orleans to keep the Pacers saying "Hey, why do we need Boston.  We can get them a PF of Davis' level and an extra low end 1st"

The reason why the Pacers need Boston is because although they have the pieces to trade with NO directly (they could even S & T McRobberts to replace Davis), there is no way Paul re-signs with them. By having Boston in the deal, they're assured of having Rondo for at least the next 4 seasons.

Yeah, I also think that is too much value coming from Indy.  I think it would be more like Rondo for Collison and George, and then the C's would have to provide the extra picks, etc. to get Paul.

That may be true, but the Pacer might also believe the the Granger, Hibbert and someone else they get through another deal might be enough to convince Paul that this is a win now situation.

The Pacers, by sucking for the past few years, have some really intriguing young talent that could grow to be a very strong team with an experienced PG that can run a half-court offense.  Rondo would be a great, great fit for them.

George, Granger, and Rush make a solid wing trio.

But a starting 5 of Rondo, Rush, Granger, Hansbrough, and Hibbert could be pretty good.

If Collison or Hill and Paul George plus a 2012 1st are available, I consider it.  In this scenario, we take back Posey to replace BBD (for salary purposes) and go for it this year.

Collison or Hill/West
Ray/PG/ET
Pierce/JG
KG/Posey/J3
JO/mystery signing

I'd want Collison, George and hibbert or psycho t for rondo, but there is no way they do that.

If Rondo was traded to the Pacers then I would want Roy Hibbert as part of any deal

Celtics - Hibbert, Collison + Posey

Pacers - Rondo

How about that?
