Earlier tonight on NBATV's primetime show called "Gametime," host Matt Winer reeled off a Top 5 list of questions to NBA reporter David Aldridge.  The 4th item on the list (in ascending order) asked about two free agents from the world champion Dallas Mavericks: Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler.

Without being prodded to name teams, Aldridge described how the Celtics don't have many players signed (true), are in desperate need for a center (no offense, Jermaine) and that they are "looking very hard at Tyson Chandler."

So, anybody want to explain how we're going to pull off signing Chandler when we only have $3 million per season to offer?

yea I saw that earlier, just wishful thinking, no way Cuban doesn't match pretty much anything he is offered. Haywood would seem to be more of an option if they cut him with the amnesty clause.

To me, there are two ways this works.  Sign and trade for Jeff Green, or a trade of Ray Allen.

I actually think Ray Allen would be a great fit in Dallas, so perhaps they would listen.  And perhaps it would be easier to replace Allen (particularly with Green able to step in as a starting PF, and Pierce moving to SG), than find a guy like Chandler.  But I still think its a major longshot.

Seems like another example of a national broadcaster not understanding the whole picture and simply jumping to conclusions.  Still, one would think with all the talk about financial restrictions, people could figure this one out.

Maybe they could work a sign and trade.  Still think it's a long shot though.

Not sure how we pull it off but if the Celtics can land Chandler, I would jump and down til the sun comes up. He is EXACTLY what the Celtics need.

See, I'd love to dismiss this, but this is David Aldridge we're talking about.  He doesn't seem to make stuff up.  I don't know how realistic it is, but I believe it has been discussed at some level.

I would not be surprised if the Celtics were willing to make a hard push for Chandler ( Sign and trade green and Baby) and Aldridge knew this.

Don't know if I would be happy giving up both Green and Davis for Chandler. Chandler is great, but what happens this summer? Would we lose out on the chance to sign Howard or another big name FA? Chanlder and Rondo seems a bit weak as a core for the future to me, especially since Chandler is not very young.

This is counting the grandchickens of eggs that we haven't seen let alone hatched yet, but if we got Chandler somehow he could be part of a Howard sign-and-trade package down the road.

Lot of stuff has to happen for that scenario to play out, but getting Chandler doesn't exclude us from getting Howard and might help a bit.

The Cs could offer a mid-level if they amnesty JO. Why not? How do you think JO in going to hold up for all those back-2-backs & back-2-back-2-backs? I would put his over/under of games played this season at 23.

I am not sue the MLE would be enough for TC, but it's a thought.

  • Rondo = Good
There's no scenario I can think of in which Tyson Chandler comes to the Celtics that makes any sense whatsoever for either team.

CP3 to Chandler for the alley oop were a joy to watch...if we get him, I hope to see Rondo and Chandler do the same.
