now that Kris is a free agent, both in life and in the NBA, I think he would be a great power forward signing for us, plus could play some back up minutes at the 5.  Has a nasty attitude similar to Perk. Don't know what he will command on the open market though.

I'd prefer him to Davis I think, assuming he can play some defense in addition to gathering rebounds. He shouldn't be given too many touches otherwise, he turns the ball over too often for what points he does produce. (though some of those are probably illegal screens)

He'll probably cost too much money though given how much big men get paid.

Humphries averaged a double double last year.  No way in heaven or hell that we can afford him.

Wait, what's it like to have a big man who gets called for illegal screens all the time? Perk's been gone so long, I've already forgotten.

I think its a negative that he took so many shots bad shots, but you're probably right that "double double" will raise his profile.

His field goal percentage was still over 50% and his PER was almost 18.  It's not like he didn't play well last year.  He isn't a great defender, and he doesn't stretch the floor much, but he's a solid, athletic big man who can score and rebound inside.  That makes him a commodity the Celtics won't be able to afford.

I don't think Humphries will be anywhere near affordable for the C's.  Someone is going to give him a big contract well above the regular MLE, and since the C's only have the mini-MLE to work with, I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about whether last year was for real or not.

He did well enough at the rim this year, but his jump shooting is bad and he had to do it too often for the Nets last year. The Nets lack of talent other than Lopez/Deron gave him plenty of opportunities.

I'm not trying to say he's a chucker like Davis is at times, but he's a career role player on the inside.

I don't necessarily agree that Humphries will get significantly more than the full MLE.  He shouldn't, anyway.  He's what, 27 years old, and has had one semi-decent season, playing a large role on a terrible team?  We'll see what type of fiscal restraint the owners show, I guess.  Whoever signs him would be wise to limit their offer to the MLE.

I definitely agree, though, that he's out of our price range.  3 years, $9 million isn't going to get it done.

Yeah he's the sort of guy who gets overpaid in the NBA and the team instantly regrets it.

Yeah, I suppose it is tough to say what the market will be with the new CBA.  But averaging 14 and 15 in March, after they got Williams would absolutely have gotten him more than the MLE (probably about $7-9 million per year) on the old CBA. Big guys always get overpaid, and when a youngish big man puts up a season of double-doubles, and significantly better numbers when the team got a legit floor leader, then the wallets get opened.

So, we're talking about a rich man's Scalabrine?  In 2005, Scal was 27 with one season of note in New Jersey, although his team was more average than terrible.

Very different skillsets, and the season was much better than Scal's season in Jersey.

Honestly, the best comparison to him might be Mark Blount's season with the C's, where he earned himself a deal for just over the MLE from the C's.

except there is an excellent chance that he's not as much of a jerk as Blount to take the money and stop trying for the rest of his career, but you never know

Might he be as good as they could get with a two-way sign and trade for Baby?
