As a cheap third string C/PF, why not? Haven't heard his name mentioned at all, but I think he should be given a second shot with us and can help us.

Last year was an anomaly for Murphy as well as a confluence of bad luck situations.

He was injured for a brief time in NJ and then was in Avery Johnson's doghouse, a notorious black hole from which very few escape.

He came here, and within a short time was dinged and in a boot. No time to get any cohesion with his new teammates and our complex defensive and offensive systems.

We can get him for short $$$, he is familiar with the Cs, and we can use him to rebound and stretch the floor.

Anybody know how he fit with the players here and Doc? How he might feel about coming back?

He is only 31 and a big body, something we can always use.

Someone will undoubtedly overpay for him, hoping to get the "old" Troy Murphy back. I'll pass.

On a cheap deal, sure, why not?

It will be interesting to see how non-Bird rights are handled in the new deal, especially for tax teams.

Yes, sure, we have a lot of roster spots to fill out, so if he comes cheap then great, he already knows the system, is big, and can shoot. Good enough for at least the 15th spot.

I'm firmly in the "if Troy comes back cheap, then sign him" camp.

only as a non-roster invitee to training camp.  let him show he can contribute before giving him another contract.

If his body's not toast, that 39% career 3-pt shooting and 25% defensive rebounding rate would be nice off the bench.  Doubt Doc and Danny are keen on offering him the money and minutes he'll be looking for.  A 1-year, $3 mil offer might happen if both sides strike out on the market. Murphy's certainly not ideal for the C's big man needs (strength, defensive ability, post-up play), but his shooting could offer a powerful dimension (and an excellent anti-Rondo defense buster) to the team, and a one-year audition on a team likely to have many big man minutes available could give him a chance to show the free agent market that he can still be a double-double guy with elite deep shooting.

Not my favorite scenario though.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I agree. Troy Murphy forgot how to play basketball during his brief stint here. I think a fresh start and a new season could do wonders.

I dont want Murphy AND JO on the roster.  We need some depth of players who we can actually count on to take some minutes so we don't run our stars into the ground again before the playoffs...especially in this compressed season

He got his first playoff stint last year with the C's. Reckon he'll be motivated and come back for more?

Ditto.
