In the summer of 2010, we signed Jermaine O'Neal to a 2 yr contract. At the time it seemed like a good F/A signing. But not too far into the season, he got injured, and never really got to show Boston what he's good for.
He ended the season playing only 24 games, but then, let me ask you, would you rather have him injured during the time when Shaq was healthy, or having both gone during the playoffs??
It's really not his fault that he got all those knee issues last season, and he really, really tried his best to get back to the court, and produce for the C's.
Many fans took the fact that he was (pretty much) our only reliable big man during the playoffs for granted. He did his best, to be a low post presence. He played trough PAIN, and still had a solid performance, to be the 5th option on the court. Nobody asked him to be a star, or a scorer.. He blocked shots for us, grabbed a few rebounds, scored a little bit..
(all stats are from last years playoffs):
5.78 pts
1.78 blocks
4.22 reb
and averaged a career high free throw percentage (!) which was: .909
I feel most of the Celtics fans was way too hard on him. And saying that Kendrick Perkins would do better than him, and we prob. would win it all. Yes, umbuntu might have been there, but thats not JO's desicion to trade anyone?.. Also, Jermaine had a better post season than big Perk.
4.53 PTS, .576 freethrow%, 0.76 blocked shots.. (KP, playoffs)
I love Perkins, but Jermaine actually played better than him last playoffs. (at least, all around)
My point is:
We should stop posting trade suggestions that includes our only big man on our roster (!), that tries his best to bring banner 18 to beantown. We should stop talking about him like he was a nobody. We should be thankful for what he did for us, when Shaq was out and Perkins was gone (semih too)..
Honestly, you guys.. i would love to give this guy a ring before he retires.
