Lets say the lockout never took place. And you were the GM of the Celtics. which moves would you make and who would you sign during the offseason? Trades?? Aiming for the future, or win now? Would you aim at Dwight?? I know there are many options and I would love to hear your opinions.. lets get to it!

(yeah, blame it on the lockout. this was the best I could come up with, when i desided to post something)
Doc's gonna tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

Yeah iknow, my username is Kendrick Perkins and my ranking is Jeff Green. Ironic huh?

I'd think I'd explore trades for KG and Ray's expiring deals, but ultimately not find anything... refuse to make any long term signings... keep my mind open if a superstar becomes available... but basically just sell the fanbase on this being one last run at the title with Rondo, Ray, Pierce and KG... and basically wait it out until next year when there are more options.  This season was/is probably going to be a dud regardless unless we catch fire during the playoffs and all the pieces fall into place perfectly.

at this point, I don't think you can go All In for Dwight.

Once Howard's athletism leaves him, he's done.  Shawn Kemp part 2.  All these years in the league and he still has poor footwork & can't shoot outside of 6 feet.

I would sign Tyson Chandler ASAP! The guy just showed how he can defensively anchor a championship team, and it's time for him to bring his talents to Boston so KG doesn't have to worry about protecting the rim all the time.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

go all in for Dwight...if that fails and the big 3 retires, i say we start rebuilding slowly

I will make Rondo the future and tank the next 2-3 seasons to draft some talents around Rondo

as someone said here, it is now the two star teams now...if we can get Josh Smith with Rondo in 2013 for a rather cheap price, that'll be great...

I'm not sure.

I don't have too much confidence in going for the title with the same crew and no bench.  And even in the best case, the next potential dynasty is a few years away, regardless of whether DH or someone else big signs here.  Free agency seems to be a fool's game anyway.

So I think Danny needs to do something, and I wouldn't be afraid of doing something biggish.

I'd lock in Jeff Green with a salary somewhere between the MLE and Rondo's if necessary.  He's a solid #3 option, so lock him in.  He can complement almost any other type of player/star.

Not anxious to sign BBD, but would sign him to a journeyman deal long-term (relatively cheap, below MLE) with incentives.  He is good off the bench for 20 minutes.  He should stay for a chance to win.  Or leave.  Whatever.

I give DWest a call back, too.  1-2 year near-minimum deal.  He should take it.

Our starters with DWest, JGreen, and BBD off the bench could possibly make a run, but I wouldn't be afraid to use a long term MLE contract to add scoring punch to the 2nd unit or a possible starter/replacement for Ray or JO.  The only C who might take MLE money is Dalembert, who might be a very good fit.

I try to keep Ray and KG around as long as possible for short money.  I think they could both contribute 20 minutes/night for several more years.

I try like heck to work the rookies in...give the starters some incentive to run up the score to end it early...  I think these two rooks might have some chemistry already and have complementary games...I want to see them play.  And I'd like to see Avery Bradley's defense in NBA games now and then.  Before pulling the plug on him.

So I see a possible very deep team built around our current core that wins with teamwork, balance, crazy depth, and players that complement each other perfectly that run at least 2 deep at each position, all coached by Doc Rivers.

iverson wont be a bad pick up, he can still score and when we need points he will help with that, be a nice guard to come off the bench with west

I would probably try and get some solid backups.

Big bodies to throw in the paint and make it harder for Derrick Rose and D Wade/Lebron to get to the ring in the playoffs.

We desperately need 2 scorers off the bench and hopefully J Green can pick up production from last year (which he probably will).

*I would love one or two solid 3 point shooters off the bench that can play lock down defense on the Miami twins. Someone like
*Michael Pietrus
*DeShaun Stevenson
Sasha Vujacic

would be excellent.

*I'd resign big baby if he's going cheap. He knows the system and I feel we have to roll the dice because this is our last real shot with this starting five. He can come in and play with them confidently- and hopefully return to his form of 12-18 months ago.
A low post scorer to come in and pitch in 10 points off the bench each night that can rebound.
Carl Landry would be great but he'll cost us and he could start on some bumsquad teams like big baby.
I won't really be able to decide until I see the first moves Danny Makes.
I trust him though, and I feel he's got something up his sleeve that will give our vet starters one more shot at a flag whilst preserving our money situation.

Having Green + Pietrus come in to defend the Miami twins and a solid back up center/forward would do wonders for us.
Fingers crossed.

edit:
I would be interested if Danny talked to Tyson Chandler as a free agent. We could always send him to Orlando for Dwight next year whilst giving our guys this year a very solid reliable center.

He still averages 20 points+10 boards every night+ his defensive presence in the paint is priceless.
He's the number one catch of the free agency market. Who else should we 'go all in' on if not him?

Rondo an Smoove are friends.. also, Josh attended Rajon's charity game.. they are two of my favourite players, he has also said that the Celtics are on his list and it would be sick to have them on the same team! agreeeeee..

Josh Smith is fun to watch but for the money he'll want I would try to explore our options first.
He can't shoot to save his life and we have Jeff Green at the 3/4.
I don't know what he would play in our system.
Do you make Pierce 6th man and start Smith?

I feel like with the problems we already have with scoring droughts, Smith is only going to make things worse in our slow placed and very organised system of ball screens.
One great gain we would have is someone young and fresh to run with Rondo all season but I think his cons outweigh his pros as far as fitting into our system.
Would be a highlight reel with him and Rondo though.

I'm talking future-wise.. no way we're trading for him (right now) but you have a point tho.. but if he could become a more complete player, with Doc.. I'd make it a deal

Jeff Green is a better player than Smith.  Rondo can make shooters look better than they are.  Get a shooter/athletic defender at SG, anyone actually, other than another big SF/F.

Rondo/Green can pair with a scorer at any other position plus one nuthead defender at another spot, plus a competent scrub, IMO, and present a formidable lineup.  Lock up JGreen, and keep options open with as much of what's left of the cap space as possible.
