A 72 game season would have slightly more games per week than the 50 game 1999 season.  http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/11/11/is-there-really-time-for-72-games/

It would average out to 3.94 games per week, as opposed to 3.46 games per week in a regular season (and 3.89 games per week in the '99 lockout).

This will suck for the Celts.  Not only does it mean more wear-and-tear, but it also means less time for practice.  That means there's going to be a lot of on-the-job training for guys like JJ and Bradley, if they're going to be contributors.

I'm not buying this idea that a shortened, condensed season would necessarily suck for the Celtics. Our older guys will get a chance to go into the season as rested as possible.

The fact that the young guys won't get much practice time is going to be true for the competition, as well. Not getting enough practice is something that Doc loves to moan about even during a normal season, so he will surely be grumpy, but the truth is this should favor a veteran team like ours.

I'm not getting too excited about this latest round of "negotiation," but I wouldn't complain one lick about a 72 game season at this point.

I'd have to imagine there'd be no All-Star break under this scenario, at least not mid-season.  Or the league would change things up if an actual agreement is reached.

The more I hear about the proposed schedule, the more it seems like a bargaining tactic by the owners to tempt the players into taking the deal (missing just 1 paycheck is big) and win over public support.  It doesn't really seem too feasible to actually do it the way they're describing.

A lot of the speculation I have heard is that the league wants to keep the all-star game, as its a big revenue maker.

It depends on who we get to fill out the roster.  Right now, we only have something like six guys from last year's team under contract, and that includes J.O. (who could be amnestied) and Bradley (who barely played).  There's going to have to be a lot of learning for any new guys we bring in.  We've already seen how big of an adjustment the Celtics system is for both young guys and new guys, so I'm probably not as hopeful as you are.

The difference is that Doc will now have most of a season to get people adjusted, as opposed to the mad rush of post-Trade last season.

We are fortunate to have young legs to potentially back up KG and Pierce this year, and also fortunate that Ray Allen is a robot from outer space and that Rondo can play for 52 minutes a game as long as nobody breaks his arm. Square away Center with whatever corpses that you can get as JO insurance, get some passable PG behind Rondo (I liked Arroyo) because Bradley is a trainwreck for now, cross your fingers and buckle up.

For cap reason, I don't really want them to resign Jeff Green. But they certainly need a Jeff Green type to eat a whole mess of minutes off the bench.

Have to go through the free agency list to see what low cost options there are at the 2 and the 3. AHHHHHH Basketball season feels here.

We will have to resign Delonte West, Carlos Arroyos, and unfortunately Glen Davis. But if JuJuan Johnson works out, Glen Davis could get shipped out midway through the season.

My big thing is, Do we dare trade Rondo for CP3 angling for DH in this upcoming off-season?

Sounds like we are getting ourselves into a condensed FA signing period that will make or break our chances for one more crack at a 2012 championship. Chicago and Miami are not going away anytime soon. Then you got Memphis, Oklahoma, Dallas, and of course LAL out west.

Celtics could easily get into scheduling conflicts with the Bruins (Chicago has the same problem too) but that is a good problem for the fans.

My bad for forgetting about Jeff Green...... Yeesh, he could be our MVP for all we know.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Currently we have no young legs to backup KG and Pierce.  We still have to resign Green, and behind KG we have no one but an unproven, late first round pick rookie, who did not have any summerleague, or extended preseason.

Danny will have a lot of work to do to supplement this roster.  He can certainly do it, but its going to be a challenge...and he can't miss.

To be honest, I have no idea what the new rules would allow us to do as far as filling out the roster.  Will there be any chance that we would even be able to sign our own free agents and keep, more or less, the same squad we had at the end of next year?

If we can somehow re-sign Delonte, Green, Baby, and Murphy, and then fill out with whoever-Pavlovic, Arroyo, and a low price big like that Ukrainian dude from Utah or Ajinca or Gray or whoever-then I like our prospective team.

I have no idea if that's even realistic, though, and if we would even have the ability to field a 15 man team.

If someone has more insight on how this would all work if this deal goes through, please let me know.

Reggie Williams seems like a guy whose going to get a boat load more than he's worth.

Low cost option at the 4 I love: The Rhino! Craig Smith

It's weird but at this point I barely care if the Celtics win a championship - I just want there to be one awarded.  Sure that'll change if we actually get the season going, though.

Then you might as well just use Jeff Green for it, since he's already here and partially knows the system anyway.

With the contracts of the Big Four + Bradley, the Celts are already basically at the cap. Show Green the door, amnesty JO, and now you're left with 50 cents to spend on getting 10 more guys for your basketball team. Thanks but no thanks, that sounds about as fun to me as a root canal.

Keep JO, offer Green his one-year qualifying offer, and use the MLE (if it exists) and veteran minmum contracts to stitch together a team. I want Delonte back, and Wafer. Etc.

Just Read the following on Hoopshype.com:

No deal?
A source on the players' side source tells ESPN.com the revised offer will likely be rejected.
