After last nights loss, can we say the Eagles are done for this season in terms of being a playoff contender?

It's funny, they have completely changed who they were and it is not working.

They were a scary defense when they were one of the best blitzing teams.  They were strong up the middle of the defense.

Now, weak up the middle.  They want speed ends to get to the QB while open up holes for the rushing game without the LBers to clean up those holes.

Offensively, they went from strong offensive line and decent skill positions.  Now, they have great skill talent, but no offensive line.

The Eagles went soft.

Yeah, we can put a fork in them.

They seemed to build their team for headlines (loading up with great athletes at skill positions on offense and defense and neglecting the trenches).  Not that surprising it hasn't worked out.

I'm also unsurprised that Vick hasn't been as great this season.  Teams are doing a much better job of game-planning for him now.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

They now have film on the Eagles version of Vick.  Take away the deep ball and blitz him.  He is still capable of putting up yards and wins, but you increase the chance greatly of mistakes happening.

I'd say their playoff chances are on life support.  Sitting at 3-5, they're two games behind a wild card spot although they've lost the head to head matchups with both the Falcons & Bears (both at 5-3) which make things even harder for them.  With 8 games remaining, their margin for error is becoming razor thin.  They can forget about winning the NFC East, though.  That's the Giants' division to lose now.

They're remaining schedule isn't the easiest either with games against the Giants, Pats, Jets, and Cowboys looming down the road.

They've gone too finesse.

If I'm a betting man, I wouldn't like their chances of a playoff berth.

The Giants have a very tough schedule ahead of them, the Eagles could still win that division, the Giants aren't all that good and have serious injury issues.

I don't think the Eagles are going to make the playoffs. Their defense just hasn't been good enough and they've had some bad TO issues in close games which can kill any teams playoff chances if they're not a a dominate team that blows out a bunch of teams to pad their win total.

Giants do have a hard schedule.

They have just won one of the two hardest games on the schedule except I think more then any other team, they match up really well to the Pats.  It seems to come down to which team has the ball last with these teams.

Here is the difference with the Eagles and Giants schedule.

Eagles played Atlanta and Chicago (and lost both)

Giants have to play NO and Green Bay.

While the Giants are facing the better two teams, it doesn't matter because the Eagles already lost those two games.

I think the NFC East title (and possibly its only playoff berth) could very well come down to that Cowboys-Giants game in Week 17.

Cowboys have a very soft 2nd half of the season in regards to the schedule.

Still think its the Giant's division to lose but it won't come easy.

With the Sybil-ish way that division is playing....I wouldn't rule them out yet.

Huh?

Of course it matters because the Giants still have to win those games, otherwise their lead shrinks to a single game. And since the Eagles play the Giants still they aren't out of it, they're just pushing the boulder up hill now.

I think Philly has no other choice but to fire Andy Reid during the off season.

There is something amiss going on in the locker room. And for this, the head coach is most responsible.

I am talking about how hard the schedule is.  The Giants have a harder schedule because they play GB and NO vs. Philly playing Chicago and Atlanta.  Philly has already lost to the two different opponents.  The Giants still have the chance to beat their different opponents.

The rest of the teams they face are the same.

Yeah they've lost the two different games, but they've played different teams so far. Going forward the Giants have a harder SoS because they:

1. Have already played more of their "easier" common games (and lost two of them)
2. Have their two different games (which are tougher)

The Eagles have lost to pretty good good teams so far. If they can beat the Giants and take care of two bad teams in Arizona and Seattle I think they'll be in the division race.

I think the 49ers, Saints, and GB have the advantage on the Giants. The only team I like them to beat among their next four is actually Philly.

8-4 Giants with the Eagles at 5-7 and the Cowboys at 6-6 or 7-5 as well seems to be how I see things working out in four weeks.

If the Eagles upset the Giants then its 7-6 and 6-6 and they have a shot in the last four weeks of the season to still win the division.
