This is finally what I've been waiting for.  We've heard Fisher, Hunter, and their lead lawyer and economist state the position of the union.  But I've always felt they don't represent the majority opinion, because let's face it, the big earning superstars are the minority in the league.  Your Delonte Wests and Javale McGees are going to vote yes to the owners proposal; and plenty of other player who need the money now or have one last pay day in their career and can't risk losing the season.

I haven't paid attention in a while, but I thought the whole thing was that mid-tier players stood to lose out the most in terms of what owners were proposing?

Don't wanna rain on the parade but, here's the tweet that article is based of of:

Quote
As I hear from players, I will be surprised if there isn't some kind of membership push to take NBA's offer. How big of one? Still unknown.

That article seems to really run with a tweet from Woj that doesn't say all that much.

Ok let the Ja Vell Magees and the Delonte Wests have their vote. I am pretty sure the vast majority will just say no and want to follow through with the De-certification vote. So I think this basketball season is effectively over.

I think it was answered somewhere before, but does decertification mean that players current contracts are voided? If so, are they all FAs after a new CBA?

That's what I thought as well.  From what I read early on, the owners didn't mind paying their LeBrons, Dirks, or Kobes 20 mil a year, but they didnt want to get stuck with guys like James Posey etc for 7 mil a year.
do it

Well, that is where the catch is here.  On the one hand, the mid level players are the ones who would suffer the most under the new system.  They would be squeezed by the smaller cut, and they would be hurt by not allowing luxury tax paying teams to use a full MLE.

However, they also are the guys who are hurting financially by missing games.  The stars are already set.  The Lebron's, KG's, Kobe's do not need any more money, and are still bringing in plenty of endorsement money while the lockout is going on.  So, for them, missing a season is not going to hurt too much in their pockets.  However, the guys who make maybe 3, 4, 5  million per year have a smaller margin.  If they have overleveraged themselves, and not saved very well, then they are going to be feeling the missed pay checks a lot more.

I know its hard to think about having that much money, and spending it all, but it is a lot easier to do when you have only made $15-20 million in your career, than if you have made $80-100 million.

This is what you have been waiting for? A hardline pro-owners guy like you has been waiting for a tweet about the unlikely event that there is a remote chance that maybe the players could possibly vote on the owners 50/50 split that they are already saying might not get approved by the owners anyway?

I think you will find there is almost no way that the union could pull off that vote and have results of it in before Wednesday's ultimatum deadline and I think you would be further surprised at the outcome.

I honestly think that all things considered(the size of the owner's versus player's factions, who has a higher percentage of money to lose in the short term, the experience of the leadership on both sides, and what has been spottily reported in the media), that if votes went up on both sides of the aisle you would find the players would be more in unison with each other than the owners.

I would like to ask that same question to Larry Coon. But I would not be surprised if he couldn't answer it.

He answers is every other day.  What he says is that is what Stern claims, and what the owners are trying to get a judge to rule on, but as of now, it is still up in the air.  He has pointed out however that the fact that the NFL contracts were not voided when they decertified, does not look good for the owners argument on this particular case.

The rank and file players would vote yes because they are the ones who need the money the most.  Your KGs, Ray Allens, Paul Pierces have $175-300m in career salaries earned.  They aren't going to be impacted by missing a few or even a year's worth of paychecks.

Well I'd say the mid to upper tier guys would be on the same side so maybe more like a 65/35 to 70/30 type split.  I just used the 3 Celtics as extreme examples.

I agree with you I was joking.  It is easily a 70/30 split as you say.
