Hey Everyone,
it looks like the CB NFL Draft may be a non-starter.  I thought this might be pretty fun.  The SBNation College blogs did a conference reallignment draft.  They did it with 6 conferences, I thought maybe we could do it with 10 just to get a little more involvement.

So the the basic jist is, snake draft, and we all try and get the best conference we can, it applies to all sports, some other things to take into account, geography, academics, fanbase, rivalrys.

I think it could be pretty fun.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Not a bad idea.

During our last Historical draft, someone (I think 33-00-32), mentioned doing a Historical College Basketball draft, too.

Imagine taking the greats while they were in college.

Might be fun, but the conferences would be jumbled messes with teams all over the country.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

You mean unlike real life?  I think Boise state has been invited to the big east!

but in all seriousness.  Thats why geography would part of considerations when building your conference.

That's all well and good, but I just don't see geography playing much of a role.  I mean if I have Southern Cal and my two best options are Oregon and Alabama, I'm taking Alabama and not giving it a second thought.

As for real life, the 5 major conferences are all pretty well centered from a geographical standpoint, especially with Syracuse and Pittsburgh joining the ACC (and not leaving poor old Boston College all alone).  Even the smaller conferences for the most part are centered, though they do have an outlier here or there.

I think cross country conferences could work in Football, but in a sport like basketball or baseball it would be completely impossible and the conference probably wouldnt work.  So if you picked both Alabama and USC I probably would think that conference were bound to fail

Wow That would be a great idea, hahaha! Not sure it was mine but it was so long ago...

I might be interested in this draft. It would be completely different than most of the others on CB. My decision would probably be based on when it happened and how much I thought I would need to put into it.

How many schools would make up each conference? Really all sports? Gymnastics, wrestling, soccer, hockey, baseball, softball, track, volleyball, etc....

F:Parker,MKG,Budinger,Mirotic,Salmons

Well I honestly I think all schools would be up for inclusion.  And I would probably say 14 rounds since alot of conferences are now trying to get the 14-16 school range.

Also, while football and basketball would be the main inclusions due to the income they generate, a school like BC or BU might be up there in peoples minds due to hockey and academics

Is the ACC failing now?  I mean Miami to Boston is only 500 less miles then LA to Tuscaloosa.  Now granted you aren't crossing time zones, but they are both long air line flights.

There are 120 Football Schools in FBS, so if you had 10 conferences, you would need 12 rounds.  Now granted that doesn't account for some great basketball schools, but I think you have to think football in this exercise before anything else.

I dunno, not sure you could do a conference re-draft without teams like villanova, umass, providence among others
