I have to question Shaq's account of all this.  The games he's referring to were 1/30/11 at LA, and 2/1/11 at Sac.

http://espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=310130013&period=0
In the Lakers game, Shaq and Baby were on the floor for only 1:45 the entire game (all in the 2nd quarter).  In the 2nd, from 6:28 when Shaq enters to 4:43 when Baby leaves, neither took a shot or had a turnover.  Maybe, maybe, it's Glen's fault at 5:13 when there's a shot clock violation, but besides that, there's nothing.

http://espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=310201023&period=0
Very similar in the Kings game, Shaq and Baby are only on the court for 3:26 together (again all in the 2nd quarter).  In the 2nd, from 9:37 when Shaq enters to 6:11 when Baby leaves, Baby only took 1 shot (but he made it, and it was a 4 footer assisted from Nate Robinson).  Then at 6:11 Shaq has a 3 second call against him, which maybe, maybe you can blame on Baby (if Shaq had position and was begging for the ball).

So absolutely worse case scenario there's possibly 2 possessions where Baby was selfish and didn't give Shaq the ball.  I think Shaq is being Shaq and exagerating here.  If he's mad at Baby for taking (and making!) a 4-footer, then maybe Shaq's the selfish one.
Not making the pass to the guy with position down low doesn't show up on the box score. It also isn't a selfishness issue. It is a poor passing skills issue or low bball IQ issue.

Perk was always great at passing the ball to Al Jefferson in the post. Good passes.

Speaking of Glen Davis, he just posted in his Twitter account:
"They didn't offer 51%. Thats my offer to the owners. Ha. That's a a good offer right . You guys would take it right"

Talk about unity in their union. Ha!

Well, in any event, I'm thankful that Glen was selfish on this play:

He has his faults, but if he's back this season he'll get my support.

If Shaq pushes his market price any lower, Baby is a lock to be back.

While I am most certainly not going to argue Davis is not a selfish player, I also am not going to put much stock in this.  What superstar (or ex-superstar) big man does not think he is ALWAYS wide open in the post?  To be honest, I am not thrilled to have Davis trying to make entry passes from the high-post anyways.

Shaq is a blowhard, and he will say anything to get a headline.

This is some vindication.  I recall making a thread earlier in the season highlighting how Shaq's FG% was extremely high, yet we had people like Davis shooting jumpers at 40%.  I pushed for Shaq to get more shots, and even if his fg% dropped 10% it'd be more efficient than any Davis shot.  Yet everyone seemed to disagree.

How shaq was getting only 3 shots in games is beyond me.  I realize he was playing limited minutes, but he still could score near the hoop, or at least get players in foul trouble.

If I see Davis back in a Celtics uniform then I'm not going to re-up my League Pass subscription.  I don't want to waste any more time or $$ watching him take more shots than Ray Allen, and play more minutes than KG.

Thank you Jackie & Shaq for talking about this.

Today Shaq threw yet another team mate under the bus to make himself look better. Big Baby Davis plays selfishly and shoots too much.

In other shocking news, the sky is blue.

Not exactly selfish... No time to do anything else.

That's how I feel about it.

Things shown here:

1) Shaq doesn't care about anyone but himself, as we've seen time and time again.

2) Glen Davis shoots too much and 'is out to get his'.

In other news, Libyan dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi is still dead.

Kinda related to this... You guys see what Shaq said about the Cavs babying LeBron?  http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/216276/Shaq_Cavaliers_Allowed_LeBron_To_Do_Whatever_He_Wanted

In the anecdote he mentions Delonte being the one guy willing to point it out.  Kinda interesting.

Quote
“I remember one day in a film session LeBron didn’t get back on defense after a missed shot. Mike Brown didn’t say anything about it. He went to the next clip and it was Mo Williams not getting back and Mike was saying, ‘Yo, Mo, we can’t have that. You’ve got to hustle a little more.’ So Delonte West is sitting there and he’s seen enough and he stands up and says, ‘Hold up, now. You can’t be Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.footing around like that. Everyone has to be accountable for what they do, not just some us.’ Mike Brown said, ‘I know, Delonte. I know.’ Mike knew Delonte was right.

oh... and Glen Davis sucks

never heard complaint bout baby shootin till this last playoff run..

when we got that ring he was shootin and hittin

exactly.
He's been a critical member of our line up. Pretty much 6th man of the NBA for a while. Had a horrid stretch last year but so did a lot of our guys.
Shaq is trying to create publicity for his book, and he doesn't mind throwing a few people under the bus to sell a few extra million copies.

Just remember what Glen Davis gave us in the good times and also consider his knee problems last season.
He ain't perfect but for people to say they're pulling their league pass subscriptions if Glen is re-signed is pretty dramatic.
I'll watch every game no matter who we have and I feel like we owe Davis at least one more season of faith.

+1

Had either O'Neal started the season in the shape Davis did,  Davis wouldn't have logged half of the minutes he did....Instead of logging twice as many minutes as both O'Neals combined.  Between the two O'Neals, it looked like they were easily carrying a hundred extra pounds.

Shaq has no credibility here.  Had he been in this for another championship, he'd have come to camp in shape.  He needs to take a long look in a very oversized mirror.  Easy to make stupid comments when you're cashing your checks from the bench.  Hey Shaquille....Davis isn't the player you are....But he's committed enough to work hard enough to actually be in the arena.

Somehow I get the feeling the jovial Shaquille O'Neal, in his hall induction speech, is going to sound the same bitter way Jordan did in his.

And +1 to you sir.

I always respected what Shaq could do when he came to play. He was a mammoth of a man and a dominant force under the basket.

That said, I never liked him. I think he was always lazy regarding his conditioning. He never tried to better his basketball skills as he knew he was the biggest and strongest man on the court and could just take advantage of that. So he never developed a free throw or a decent short to mid range game that might have made him the best center in the history of the game.

And he burned bridges at every stop he made because of his humungous ego.

when we won a ring, Davis rode the bench, Powe, Posey, and House were hitting.

not taken anything away from powe pimpin..thats the homie

posey impressed and house was ballin..but baby was shootin jumpers and hittin

why u think doc kept givin him the green light?

That's simply not a true recollection.  BBD's role increased in 2008-09, but in 2007-08, the championship year,  BBD was a minor role player.  In 69 regular season games he averaged 13.6 mpg and took 3.2 shots per game.  He played in 17 of the team's 26 playoff games, averaging just 8.1 minutes (2nd fewest on the team) and took just 2 shots per game.

Actually, on a per-minute basis, that playoff shot-rate was probably a clue that he was a gunner.

Folks who imply that BBD was taking shots only because other 2nd unit players were too timid to take them are over-looking the reality that last year BBD was constantly on the floor with KG, Paul & Ray and yet STILL taking the shot far too often.

I believe Shaq is telling the truth in this case because it matches both what so many of us saw happening and what the stats tell us.   Davis' USG% shot up last year to 20.9% - higher than Shaq, Green & Ray.  That is simply not right.   When those guys are on the floor with BBD, one of them should be taking the shot, not BBD.

Hell, here is what is most maddening.  Here are BBD's FG% vs distance numbers from this last year:

distFG%attempts
At rim63.1%241
3-9 ft39.8%103
10-15 ft43.7%87
16-23 ft35.0%355!!!!!
3PT eFG%20.0%15

Let me make this very clear:  When Rondo and BBD are on the floor, if the shot is to be taken from 16-23 feet, it [dang] well had better be Rondo, because Rondo is a FAR BETTER shooter (41%) from that range.

Why on earth was BBD taking _MOST_ of his shots from a range he is just not good at?

Obviously, the best thing is for BBD to pass inward, to a guy like Shaq or JO to take a high (65+% shot).  But if the middle is clogged and you HAVE to take a 16+ footer, between Paul(42%), Ray (46%), KG (47%), Jeff Green (51%!!), Rondo (41%), Delonte'(48%) - there was NEVER a case where BBD would have been the best option!
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Big Baby is a fool. He a pathetic excuse for an NBA role player. I went to a few games last year and one moment with him really stick out in my head.

In a big game against The Knicks (Rondo's 24 assist triple double game), Glen Davis had a good night. He had 16 points on 7-12 shooting. Also Paul Pierce posted 24-14, KG posted 24-10.

The Celtics came out with a 4pt win against the up and coming Knicks. Glen Davis got his 6th foul late in the 4th right after the game was in hand. Instead of just accepting the foul, realizing the big win, and sitting down... Glen Davis pouted his way down the court and sat on the bench with his head down while his teammates celebrated the victory.

I was immediately disgusted by this. It's when i initially realized how much Glen really puts himself over the team.

Another moment i saw was in the Association feature. In the last episode right before the Pierce feature they showed Paul standing in the doorway about to congratulate is team on a big win, Glen Davis comes in moping and Pierce says "come on man" then forces a hug on him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeKMcyUgPWk

The team shouldn't have to make sure players are happy when they're already seeing increased time and shots AND they are winning games.

Don't want Glen Davis back at all. Period.

Red's Army did an article on this situation: http://www.redsarmy.com/home/2011/11/the-big-shennanigan.html

Proof that Shaq's stories are very bogus.

Seeing him lie to people so blatantly really makes me lose respect for Shaq.
