from todays globe by Benbow: http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/extras/celtics_blog/2011/11/shaq_spills_som.html

“Big Baby” Davis kept looking me off and taking it himself. Doc is shouting at him to go inside, but he won’t. So Doc calls timeout and draws up a play for me. I go out there, and I back Andrew Bynum way under the rim. I’m loose, I’m ready. I’ve got Bynum under the basket and again, Baby won’t give me the ball. So I go up to him and say, “If you ever miss me again I’m going to punch you in the face.” I was hot.
Two nights later we’re playing in Sacramento and here we go again. I take three shots the entire game and again I’ve got my man isolated underneath the basket, and Baby ignores me and takes a jump shot. So the next time we’re in the huddle I let Baby have it.

I tell him, “Pass the [expletive] ball inside.” He comes back at me a little bit and now I’m really heated. All hell is breaking loose. We’re going back and forth. Doc is standing there and he’s not saying a word. The message is pretty clear: Work this out yourselves. I tell Baby, “You’re a selfish player. Everyone on this team knows it.” Hey, all the fans knew it. He takes shots when he shouldn’t."

Now, Shaq has not always been the most reliable source for anything, but this book was wtitten with Jackie MacMullen, and I trust her. I always considered Davis as selfish and thought he wat the main guy behind the chemistry issues this team has had the last two years, and this just supports that theory. I would not like to resign him, let him walk, we don't need that on our team.

Anybody who doesn't think Baby is selfish hasn't been watching very closely these past few seasons.

Just this past season the bench had better options on offense but in most games it was Davis taking most of the shots when the second unit was on the floor.    I would much rather see West or Green getting Davis shots but once Davis touched the ball all of the Celtic's trademark ball movement went out the window.   I cant count the amount of times I screamed at my television because Davis forced a shot while Ray Allen was wide open in the corner. He's a black hole without the ability to actually score with much consistency.

I'll be very happy watching Glen Davis play for another team if we have a season this year.

My thing is this...if what Shaq is saying is true, and he's exhibited selfish motives....why is he still on the team - going on 4 years or so?

That's my question as well, and also why did Doc not get involved in that example Shaq gave? Why did he leave them to work it out themselves?

Shaq is spot on in this case. Glen Davis does not belong in a Celtics uniform, he is anathema to everything the Celtics culture represents.
You are no longer black, or brown, or yellow, or red! You are now GREEN, you are light GREEN, or dark GREEN!

Good Question.

I'm confused even moreso than normal, now ;D.

As good a coach as Doc is, I find it hard to believe that he'd allow a chemistry issue to continue on, if there was one.

I tend to defend Glen a lot, so I'm admittedly partial towards him.

Maybe what Shaq is discussing is an isolated issue.

Whatever the case is (if there is one), I hope Doc/Danny/Big Four work it out this season.

Remove/release the non-team players (if any) etc, and bring in parts that can work together, without agendas.

This is our last shot. I want Banner 18.

Lol they don't call him the fat mamba for nothing.

Doesn't change anything for me I remain ready and willing to trade Glen Davis.

I agree with all of this - tp. I am not the biggest Baby supporter, but it sounds more like a little drama than anything else. I agree that Baby shoots the ball more often than he should, but I doubt he refused to give Shaq the ball time and time again. I always thought one of the biggest problems with the second unit was their lack of assertiveness to take a shot. That's why Baby was always the one taking a stupid jumper with no time left on the shot clock.

I like Shaq and all and wish things went differently this past season, but he really needs to keep his mouth shut sometimes [unless he has something good to say]. This can't help chemistry and sounds like he just hates Baby.

No. Anyone who truly watched BBD play last season recognizes this is true. BBD was looking for a contract. He is a selfish player who is about half as good as he thinks he is. He quit doing the things that made him a solid backup (taking charges, hustling after loose balls, pushing away from the plate of chicken wings), and thought that HE was the star of that second unit. I am sure Doc figured that anyone hearing Shaq scream at them is going to have the wisdom to follow suit. Obviously BBD wasn’t one that would.

If BBD is on our squad again I am going to pull my League Pass subscription… He peaked a couple years back and will only get worse and worse from here on out. Bad teammate, out of shape player. Out you go Chubs!
