According to multiple sources, one of the resolved issues in a new CBA is the 2011 salary cap will remain at the level as it was in 2010 -- $58 million.

“That’s what we’ve been discussing, though the exact dollar amount is not set until the new deal is done,’’ said one league source, who added no new talks have yet been scheduled.

Economic projections from sources say the salary cap will then grow to about $60-$61 million in 2012

If that's true, that news (coupled with the amnesty rule and the "stretch" exception) is huge for both the Knicks and the Nets.  The Knicks would potentially have around $17 million to spend (after dealing with cap holds), while the Nets could have 30+ million ever after re-signing Deron.

It really puts New York up into the first tier in terms of attracting free agents.

Getting to join Amare Stoudemire + Carmelo Anthony to form a genuine title contender and to play in New York. Wow. Hugely attractive offer.

They are the frontrunners to land Dwight Howard or Chris Paul.

I don't think James Dolan is cut-throat enough to do this ... but they should trade Amare for Dwight Howard and then pursue Chris Paul in free agency.

Chris Paul + Carmelo Anthony + Dwight Howard = beautiful

That would indeed be a sick combination.  I love that idea.

I don't. I hate the Knicks and after spending a decade being their doormat during the Ewing era, I would not want to do that again.

That said, that's a sick combo of players.

We definitely would have to trade for CP3 and convince him to stay in order to have a chance at D12. I'm not necessarily advocating we do that anymore, but it's the only way I see us getting in the mix and having a chance.

That would be something.  I wonder if they could get Landry Fields to stick around for a good role player in that lineup.  I also don't think it'd happen though.  I wonder if Orlando could get better than Amare?  If Miami caught wind of this possibility, would they offer D-Wade or Lebron for Dwight?  Just some random thoughts...

I wouldn't put anything past Riley...

Lol he's always reminded me of Al Pacino in the Devil's Advocate. I can see him moving anyone for the right deal.
