To me, calling this deal like 95% done is like saying I'm 80% done with my first marathon after Iwoke up, took a shower, and put on clothes. Now all i have to do is run 26.2 miles

If I was David Stern, I'd offer the players 49% and give them a week to accept. If they don't then the offer drops to 48%, then 47%, 46% and so on every week thereafter.
That's a strategy for cancelling the season and having to reset negotiations after you've done that.

I wouldn't be afraid to cancel the season. The longer this thing goes on the more likely it is that the players will crack. I'm all in favor of waiting as long as is necessary. Over the long-term it will be worth it.

How is it 'worth it' to you to have the players make less $?

Less money for the players would mean more money for my side.

He has altered the deal.  Pray he doesn't alter it any further  ;)

Seriously though, owners also have to account for the decrease in total revenue that a scorched-earth policy can create.  An additional 5% of a pie that's become 20% smaller...I punch those numbers into my calculator and it makes a frowny face.

Well said.  Both sides need to take this into account when they're determining how far they're willing to take this.  I know all the projections the sides are looking at (publicly) suggest that revenue is going to increase annually, but I can't see that happening if there's a lost season.

Stern has "left a deal on the table until Wednesday", which is 51%, according to all sources. If it's not acceptd by then, it will be withdrawn and replaced at 47% and a flex-cap. Looks like it's the players' move, but from all indications I've seen up to this point, it was rejected, and they're not budging below 52%. Here's hoping they cave. :P

More of the presser here.

From what I'm reading, owners are in fact offering players a 48 to 51% band, with the union willing to come down to a firm 51%. I'm not optimistic.

I think if they were going to accept this deal they would have done so already.

Stern's words of 'We'd love them to accept this deal' says it all. If the owners love it then the players will hate it.

Just as well there's nothing more important in life than money. ::)
