First off all, i think preettyy much everyone on this forum would agree that Nenê would be a PERFECT fit for this team.. He's athlethic, tall, can rebound, can score.. You know what he can do. The thing stopping us signing him is two simple facts:

We can't afford him.

We must keep our cap flexibility (to possibly sign Dwight)

Oh really?

I also remember hearing that Nenê would come cheap, IF he could get a championship. This team doesn't only fit well for him, and can bring him a championship, but he could be a key player in the future for us. And could provide multiple rings.

Then there's a [sort of(depending how you look at it)]issue. Let's say we sign Nenê cheap for one year, and resign him for more after winning banner 18 this coming year. AND, we're lucky to get DH as well. Then we would have 2 starting Centers, I am right? well, I feel Nenê is more natural as a PF. And, heck, a frontcourt including both Dwight Howard AND Nenê would be a lethal one, remembering Rondo is our PG. Resign RayRay and KG for cheap, and have them either backing up, or being a third option at their position. OR, if Dwight gets traded (and resigns) to a team (like L.A.) we still got Nenê as our Center!

This might just be a sweet and green dream, but it could actually be done. Doc is here for at least another 5 yrs. Players love Doc, they respect him. And pretty much any close-to-7 footer would LOVE to get oops from Rajon all night long..

Rondo
?
Green
Nenê
Howard

It might sound ______________ (insert either negative or positive word, your choise), but at least its something to talk about, during this messed up lockout..

Yeah iknow, my username is Kendrick Perkins and my ranking is Jeff Green. Ironic huh?

Offensively, I like Nene better.  Much better.

Defensively, DH by a mile.

But whatever the theory was that the guy in A Beautiful Mind came up with is called, I think it might be more productive to schmooze the #2 FA and sign him quickly than fawn over (and wait for) the top guy to make up his mind first.

I'd take Nene in hand over fantasies of DH in the future.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Nene would be great and I'd be happy to have him for any cost.
IF we can't get Howard.

Howard+Rondo would be an amazing tandem.
Howard has carried his team to the NBA finals. Nene can't do that. That's the difference.

Read that last line again. One more time.

If Nene really wanted championships over money, he would probably want a team that has more than a chance at 1 championship, which is all Boston really has to offer right now.

And I don't know how you see us signing Nene + Dwight Howard?  There's no way we have the cap space... We already have 29M committed to Rondo, Pierce, and Bradley.  Let's be really optimistic and say Nene signs for $5M.  That's 34M.  You're scenario includes Jeff Green which I have to assume costs at least $7M (again, optimistic), so now $40M.  Then take into account 10 cap holds, which is another $5M I think?  So, if there were a $60M cap (which I'm doubtful of it even being that high), that would mean we could offer Dwight $15M per year... and only be able to sign minimum contract players to surround that cast with.  And that is with overly optimistic signings of Nene and Green.

There is a pretty big difference between 'I'll take the MLE and go for a chip' and 'its not all about money'.

When Paul Pierce signed an extension for less than the max, it was not all about money...but it was still about a pretty good amount of money. Same thing can be said for Wade, LeBron, and Bosh. Nene has a player option for like 9 to 13 million or so, (I'm making an educated guess there, he was at like what..10 or 12 before, so 9-13 mil sounds right), which he will exercise, and he'll be walking into unrestricted FA next year. When he does, he's talking about signing a 10 million or so contract extension, or more, depending on how well he rebounds (as in actual rebounds) next season.

It would almost help the Celtics if there's no season this year at all.

They wouldn't have to sign any players to bad deals just to compete in 50 games.

They could go into the 2012-2013 season with only around 31-32 Million on the books (with Moore & Johnson having to be signed). You go HARD after Dwight. Sell him that Rondo and him could be a young, championship-contending core that the front office would build around for the next decade. Sell him that Garnett and/or Ray Allen would be coming back on the cheap along with any quality players who were released via the new Amnesty Rule.

That gives you Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, Howard, with at least Johnson and Moore for the bench.

Hell IMO Rondo, Moore, Pierce, Johnson, and Howard as the starting lineup gets you in the playoffs... Orlando's been getting there with that.

If they can't get D12 this team could be in trouble. KG isn't going to want to sign for super cheap if The C's aren't committing the extra money for Howard... they'll have to sign him back to one of those nice "legend contracts" where he's overpaid because of what he was before.

IP is right. Lol there is no chance he is a Celtic next season. You've never been able to sign the MLE for one year in the past anyways and I doubt that changes.
