Actually, I will throw one more scenario out there.  I think there is a chance that the union is waiting on the NLRB case ruling.  Once (if?) that gets thrown out, then there is a chance the Union will fold, and they will make a deal.

What does NLRB mean?

I think it is the National Labor Relations Board

Ummm, National labor something or rather.  It is the national agency where the NBPA filed a charge against the league, that, if upheld, will end the lockout immediately, and force the league to open the doors, and play the season under the rules of the previous CBA, until a new CBA agreement has been reached.

Yesterday (or Wednesday?), Stern tried to have the case thrown out, but was rejected, which was seen by some players as a victory, and a sign that they may have a chance of winning that case (although I have yet to read a report from anyone that actually believes it will happen).

So, the players have motivation to hold out at least to see if anything comes from that case.  If it gets thrown out, they are just in the same place they are now, without a foot to stand on, but on the outside chance a judge rules in their favor, then suddenly the lockout is over, and the owners lose most of their bargaining power (well, until they appeal).

I think there is at least a small chance that this is what Hunter is waiting for before taking those last steps towards the owners, and once it is officially denied, then he might realize it is time to blink.

My pick is January 20, on my 53rd birthday. This thing will get real ugly and the political fight between owners and players will spread to Washington DC. Then by some miracle Obama will craft a deal with House Republicans from the States of Texas, Florida, and Democrats from California, Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts where the all the owners get 200 million each in TARP money (add 6 billion to the deficit or debt) to give the players a 52-48 split in BRI - The luxery tax is set at 60 million, where by if the owners exceed 60 million in total salaries, they are penalized $1.50 for every dollar over up to 90 million, then it escalates to $2.50 for every dollar over.

As part of the deal Obama resigns from the White House and takes over as the NBA commisioner but he takes credit for saving 1000's of bartending jobs in NBA cities on his was out the door. Who knows, John Lackey might need a job as a Beer Boy at Madison Square Garden this year in hopes of auditioning for the Y----s this spring.

Maybe in 8 posts. I promise to inject a lot more creativity into my posting this year. The 1000th post under this name should be titled We THE Celtic Fans.......... I hope Lebron joins the C-Hox here in C - Attle and they play the Patriots in Indianapolis in February 2012 and Wesley Welker and Deion Branch run right by him for 5 TD catches and a 49-10 rout.... Of course, that will end my aerospace career due to office politics and then I can spend my time on more productive persuits like snookering OKC to handing us back Perkins for Ju Juan Johnson and Fat Baby Fried Chicken Davis and John Lackey (he can throw the Basketball into Kobe's midsection and earn his 80 million that way).

Or better yet, I take over David Stern's job as commissionah of the NBA and the hiring of Sexy Scottish as the Supervisor of NBA refs (Yes that means more traveling calls on Lebron James). Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn do NBA game of the week.  That is a NWO (New World Order) I can live with.

But if neither side gives in this week with the mediator, what makes you think one of the sides will give in over the next 2 months?

I think this makes JO look even more stupid for turning down surgery again.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I still think beginning to mid December. I don't think Stern will lose the season. It would do a ton of damage to his legacy. I also think he will do whatever he can to have games on Xmas. I am also not buying this whole thing about the majority of players being prepared to miss a year. Look at how many went overseas and I think Javale Mcgee was truthful when he said some players were ready to just get a deal done.

November of 2012.

You are probably not correct about this, but I am beginning to think that I may want the season scrapped.  I really hated that shortened season -- it never felt right to me.

You matter to me, thumper. I would l love to see that argument...if it was about the outage, were the Lakers fans as split about it as we seem to be?  They always seem to have an interesting take on things....   ;D
