Depends.
Is it "they came from the stork" or "mommy and daddy turn the lights down low and...."
If the latter, I'd say 6,7.... but Im not sure.

depends on the kid, how open you've been with him, how inquisitive he is, how interested etc...

my older daughter wanted to know everything about everything from the time she was about 2.  we pretty much have stuck with something about when two people love each other they can decide to make a baby...then some loose stuff about a seed growing inside the mama...we've been very explicit about what happens to the mama once she's pregnant though - that seems that have staved off the sexual aspect of making babies for now.

in short, there is no right or wrong time.  just use your best judgment based on how you've treated your kid.

THere is a wrong time: when they're pregnant. Before then is good.

Tell them the truth from the start at a level they can understand.  The level increases as they can comprehend more.

I think they came from Daddy and Mommy will suffice.   Stick with Mommy if you want to be safe.   I would not go into the biology of birth and sex with any kid not a teen.

I've heard (and I have a hard time envisioning this. I looked all over the net) that they use surprisingly interactive puppets to teach very young Korean children.

Very personal decision of PARENTS.  Not a freaking school or government entity.

No two kids are the same.  Celtics4ever....Great post.

Depends on the family, really, and you'll generally need to start simple and get more specific as they grow up.

But remember if you hold off til they're in school, they'll start "learning" about it from their peers, who'll probably have much worse information.  My parents taught me very early and it really helped demysticize it, unlike a lot of my friends.

Joking aside, for safety reasons it is best to really use explicit anatomical terms for private parts from day one, not cutesy nicknames. "Mr So-so played the dinky game with me" may be missed; "Mr So-so touched my penis" would never be missed.

Good point. I was taught when I was 5 and I think it helped.

If we're talking North Korea, I'm surprised they don't just teach them that all children come from the Great Leader. Wait, maybe that's what they do...

Meh, I got the clinical explanation when I was four simply because I asked. According to my mom, when she was done explaining I looked like my curiosity was sated and asked if I could play trains.
