i have mayweather by unanimous decision he's simply better than ortiz & smarter ortiz will have his moments early in the fight while mayweather is dusting off ring rust but that's about it i would have it a tko 11 or 12 but mayweather never seems to want to finish his opponent off when he can

thoughts on the big fight tonight?

maybe maybe not, but I refuse to watch any Mayweather or Pacman fight until it is against each other.

And the legacy of Floyd Mayweather Jr. slowly creeps futher towards Mike Tyson status one fight at a time.

He absolutly dominated Ortiz in all 4 rounds up until the headbutt incident but man i didnt see that finish comming, looking at the reply a few times it seems quite clear that it was floyds intention to really hurt Ortiz at that point, he didnt give it more than 1½ second after touching gloves and he really looked like he had malice written all over his face.

It is what it is i suppose, the ref had started the fight again and if you look at it from a rule book perspective floyd didnt do anything thats illgal but it sure as hell wasnt very sportsmanship like eighter.

It all adds up to the fight that has to happen. Pacman vs Mayweather. God vs Evil, unorthodox boxing vs technical perferction. Man vs Machine.. i could go on! it has to happen at this point.

This fight was an absolute disgrace to boxing.  Though I did want and anticipate Mayweather winning, that was atrocious.  Not only did he win on two sucker punches, but the referee completely had his back to the fight at the time.

Some may debate that a lack of experience and killer instinct doomed Ortiz.  As a fan of Mayweather, I must say that Ortiz came into the fight and was doing quite well for himself.  Though is footwork, defense and experience do not match Floyd's, Ortiz came in with quite a few powerful combo's that looked like they had Mayweather reeling for a moment.

The fight could have and should have kept going on, and I believe it would have been a classic.

Sucker punches work but have no place in boxing.  The only legit use is in manly fisticuffs where you grossly outnumbered to even the odds.  Granted this would get you assault charges today but twenty years ago it was called a Saturday Night Outing.  It definitely was a cheapshot in this fight.

Mayweather was going to win regardless.   I want to see him fight Manny P.  I did have mixed feelings about him telling off Larry Merchant.  On one hand, Merchant is a tool but on the other he is an old guy.  I don't think he could kick Mayweather's butt if he was 50 years younger.

Mayweather is good but I think Roy Jones, Jr. when he was young would have dismantled him and was pound for pound a better fighter.

Didn't watch the fight, but saw the end and I have no problem with it.  They hit gloves, that means it is go time and Mayweather went.  No issue at all.

Mayweather is the best boxer I've seen in my lifetime.  He isn't the biggest puncher, he doesn't have the best footwork, etc., but as a pure combination there is no one better (and that includes Tyson, Jones, etc.).

And seriously on fight night Ortiz was 14 pounds heavier and 10 years younger and from what I gather he was demolished by Mayweather.  The reality is I just don't care unless Floyd is in there with Manny.

Ortiz was out of his league. He could barely touch Floyd. Even when he had him in the corners his "powerful combos" were off the mark. His inability to hit mayweather is what lead to the frustration that made him headbutt him in the corner, IMO. Ortiz was reaching and Mayweather was teaching with his counterpunches.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Ortiz was getting beaten up.
What Floyd did was slightly dirty but he had suffered multiple head clashes and that last head butt was the final straw.

Many fights would've been stopped for that headbutt.

Ortiz' actions lead to him getting clowned by Floyd and I think the original scumbag move cancels out the second scumbag move.
Both quite 'cheap', but Mayweather was obviously in a rage after being headbutted like that- you could see it in his eyes.

What was funny was the confrontation between Floyd and Jim at the end of the fight. Jim is always breaking his balls and picked the wrong time to have a go at Floyd. (Jim breaks everybody's balls- he thinks it's his job to be a prick).

Only fight left for Floyd is against Manny Pac.
I honestly think Mayweather will destroy him as well, he is just too fast and speed always beats power in boxing.
He is too technically sound and although Manny has the best body shots in boxing, he simply won't be able to get inside with Floyd until the later rounds once he's hammered his body- at which point Floyd will have worked out his range.

Should be an epic battle.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

i dont see nothing cheap at all from what floyd did ,its called a fight for a reason they already touched gloves while the ref was calling for ortiz to be deducted , & even touch gloves briefly before mayweather hit him

victor also had his compete gaurd down you never do in the sport of boxing ,

what do you guys want for floyd to give his oponent adavantages? you never give your opponent anything its a violent sport as captain jack sparrow once said

I wanted really badly to say the Mayweather sucker punched him but the more I watched it....Ortiz was just stupid..He apologized, the referee clearly called time back in and yet Ortiza was out there still trying to do a group hug thing one more time.....

So Mayweather was clearly in his rights and Ortiz was just stupidly nice to the point he got his clock cleaned. It would have been nice to see Mayweather cut him a bit of slack and pushed him back a bit so the fight could have continued because people paid a lot of money.

I don't like Mayweather but he was technically correct, he is a great fighter and Ortiz is a disgrace - especially after the fight he was smiling like he was glad it was over....I don't think he likes to fight such as a Roberto Duran, or Iran Barkley, or Marvin Hagler type...I think he can fight very good but not really the heart of a fighter....just my impression after last night
