If so, we don't even need Dwight Howard next year! Seriously, if we sign one of these two guys, preferably Nene for the MLE, that would be great.

I say preferably Nene because I doubt Chandler leaves Dallas and I doubt Cuban lets him walk. Nene is a possibility as Denver is in a state flux and think he would fit REALLY well here in Boston.

Plus, lets face it, we need a real center! Guys like Kwame or Pryzbilla are good back ups but not starters and JO is injured too often to be depended upon.

Nene would be our missing key to getting back on top (imo)

Thoughts?

It's technically possible (pending CBA changes), but extremely unlikely.

No and no.  Two of the top 5 players at the most expensive position.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Good starting C and MLE do not go together.

Sure we could. But they'll be looking for much bigger offers and they will easily get it.

I don't think we can get them but Nene would be a great fit with the C's but I'm sure we could make Chandler or Howard work too ;)

Not that we have even the slightest of chances of signing him via free agency - but what's there not to like about Nene fit wise? Good interior game, can get out in transition and is in my opinion an underrated defensive presence.

Absolutely zero chance on Chandler.  He is on a title team with the Mark Cuban running the helm.  Give Nene about a 1% chance.  There's a remote shot he'd give up money for a shot at a title, but he'd be more likely to go to Miami.

Nene to Miami which would leave Dalembert to Boston could be interesting.  Miami would likely win on that one, but we could possibly get Dalembert on for less than the MLE.  Say, 4 years, 14 million?  Then have money leftover for another backup PF/C (like Chuck Hayes, Reggie Evans, or Big Baby) as well.  I think a Dalembert/Garnett defensive combo would be fantastic this season.  Dalembert could slide wonderfully into a backup C role if we were to get Dwight in '12.  I know it's a lot of dreaming, but it's fun to imagine.

never happen.

Danny may be setting the tone to try for Dwight next year but if he swings and misses, C's next opportunity to get a top flight starting center will be in the draft lottery soon after that.   :(

I think the only chance the C's would have at signing one of those guys is if the new system had no MLE, and they went to a harder cap, that was also significantly higher than it currently is, but would lower over the next few years, which would keep some of the teams with more money wrapped up longterm from offering a longterm deal to these guys.

Very unlikely, but you never know.

Why no MLE? How does that hurt the Celts chances?

Because in my scenario, there is no MLE, because it is a hard cap that the C's would be under.  So, they would be able to compete with the other teams who can currently offer more.  Also, in a hard cap system, teams will be more hesitant to overpay players, so it will be more of an even playing field moneywise, and the players will be more likely to go to a winning team.

If the system is like the current system, Denver, Indy, NJ, or some other team with cap space will offer Nene and/or Chandler way too much money for them to even consider taking the MLE.
