If you were Ainge/Doc, and you had to pick a direction for the Celtics right now: win or build, what would you pick?  Nothing smart like in between the two!

Half our production will be on a contract year.  I say we go for win now because the core is melded together so well.  The players know each other well and they know Doc well.  They also know Doc's plays and have developed a united mentality.  That's something you can't just trade for, even in a blockbuster.  The Celtics chemistry is by far one of the best - you can see it from how they run plays.  I think that's vital in winning.  They've played together long enough that execution of plays is almost second nature to them!  Doc always has multiple options each play and everyone just will know where everyone is.  With this in mind, I say we go at it another year and not go for any blockbuster deals...I also honestly don't see any big deals happening realistically.  For example, let's considered D12.  We don't really have what they need, even giving them rondo wouldn't make sense because we wouldn't have someone to run plays for all our shots and pick-and-rolls.  The list goes on with CP3, Iggy, Josh Smith, Kaman, etc. etc.

Critiques of mine?  Ideas of your own?  Irrelevant thoughts?  ::)

If you have a reasonable chance of making the playoffs , win now.  Our last "rebuild mode" lasted 20 years and there is no guarantee a total rebuild would be a short one.  Judging by Red's success with the early championships, it is easier to keep plugging in replacements as they retire.

I'm with you on this.  I feel pretty confident that our big four will be back for one more run next season (if there is one).
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

yeah..

dont wanna wait for this team to rebuild...to much trial and error and thats takes forever..

we win it all this year and for sure they'll stay atleast to 2 more..

other side of the coin...make big moves now...dont wait till they say it's over then we dont have much to offer....and key that talent locked up...no need to rebuild..nothin but smooth sailng like the isley brothers

the team is pretty much locked into 'win now' mode unless Danny finds out he can't get decent fill-ins for the bench and other teams offer a deal he can't refuse for Ray and KG.

Although it was overshadowed by a couple fantastic games vs LA in the playoffs, Paul's season in general was just as maddening as Rondo's - moments of brilliance mixed with some really frustrating times. There's no question CP3 is the better point guard, but one has to wonder about his health and if he will ever be the pre-injury perennial MVP candidate-type player again.

The beauty of our situation right now is that it positions us perfectly to do both. We've got 4 of the best 50 players in the NBA, plus some very very useful young pieces and all of our picks, plus a few extra #2s thrown in. We can win now. Yet, after this year, we'll have a massive amount of cap space to play with and a chance to sign a great FA or parlay the cap space into value down the road.

im always for "win now" but in all reality with the lack of money we'll have to sign free agents ,really no trade asssts unless we get really creative , even next year;s best center free agents will a. be too expensive or b. go to miami & win

its eaiser to rebuild & save another heartbreaking loss . only way we can be fav's next year is if we pull something big off in the offdeason a steal in some sort

Being the fav is not the goal...winning is.  The Heat was the "fav" last year but Dallas wouldn't trade that for the ring!  Every year it gets harder, but if our 4 All Stars can stay healthy, the door has not been slammed yet.  Danny has done wonders bringing in pieces on the cheap...lets see what he can do this year.   If you think you want to lose and rebuild, I have to ask you if you were around for the 20+ years between championships.  I was, and I would just as soon avoid doing it again.

Outside of a trade for a superstar like Paul, I don't see any option other than rebuild (though it can't really start until after this upcoming season -- assuming there is one -- anyway).

I just don't see how this core group of players can truly contend anymore, especially with a drastically shortened season likely coming up.

We just have to hope and pray that the transition is more like the one the Celtics made from the Cowens / Hondo era to the Bird / McHale / Parish era rather than the 20 year purgatory that came after the first Big 3 retired.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

i agree but there is a certain amount of talent you need around 3 aging stars & a guard like rondo who strength's arent his offensive skills aside from his court vision if you want to beat the miami heat & heck even the knicks next year (espeically if they get cp3)
want to know the diffrence between us & the last 2 champs? those orgazations were willing to load up thier squad even if it ment taking on horrible contracts somethimng danny ainge wont do & never do yes dallas & LA are in deep doo 3-5 years from now but im sure the titles were worth it to the fans ,thats not our gm he's going to play it safe to get in the dwight sweep stakes in 2012 add a bunch of vet min guys more aging role players & blame it on the lockout & lack of time to make the neccesary moves last year danny did a outstanding job in the offseason i mean OUTSTANDING & he threw that away in the trade deadline all im saying is were closer now to rebuilding then being a better team than the heat, mavs,NY & okc im not trying to me a pessimistic fellow but i just dont see danny adding nothing but "okay" players next year with w.e he has next season & "okay" players wont win banner 18
