If not Howard, get Gilbert Arenas!

I don't know about the last 30 years, but I think it could be argued that not a single of the last nine NBA champions has had a top 3 player on their roster.  

Ummm, there is no universe in which 2003 or 2005 Tim Duncan is not a top 3 player

OK, maybe I should have said last 8 championships.  2003 Duncan was definitely a top 3 player.  2005 is debatable.

The team could just tank and get high draft picks on their own rather than take on bad contracts to do so.  Also to get high picks of value you need to also give value.  I really didn't see you propose anything the Celtics are offfering that is of value to gain useful picks.

Arenas and Rashard Lewis probably have the worst 2 contracts in the league, and all that could be done was to swap them for each other.  Now with the whole lockout issue; can't see any owners wanting to touch these contracts.

Honestly, if Gilbert was even half the player he used to be, I would love him on this team.  He is completely insane, but he also is a competitor.

However, the Gilbert that has shown up recently is not even a shadow of his former self.  He is just terrible. 

The knee injury sapped all of his quickness away, and he just became a total liability.  He no longer could get open shots, and while he was always a good shooter, he was never good enough to be a true marksmen, if he can't make his own shot (like a Reddick type).
