Round 2: Philadelphia 76ers (1) Vs Washington Bullets (4)

Philadelphia 76ers Press Conference

Washington Bullets Press Conference

GMs should post what their tactics would be, how they feel they'd match up, and how they'd handle their rotations. Note that HCA will be the tie-breaker if voting is tied at the end of Wednesday, August 3rd.

Once this round of the playoffs is over, I'll be merging this with the rest of the Eastern 1st Rd matchups

Note to GMs off playoff teams:
Quote
7. You may not vote for your own team, this is to prevent skewing of overall results by every game theory loving GM from voting themselves in first place.
This rule is a bit unclear it was meant for regular season voting, it doesn't matter in a head to head situation so feel free to list your own team as the winner. If a GM doesn't think his team will win (or fails to vote) boo to him!

Each GM team will still however only get a single vote however, I will count the first ballot I receive.

The big question:  can Deng cover Wade, and if he does, who stops Iggy?

Initial thoughts:  this series should play into the 76ers hands.  The Sixers' best players play at positions where the Knicks are relatively weak -- SG and PF -- and the Sixers have strong defenders at the positions where the Knicks are best (Wade/Hinrich on Deron, Iggy on Deng, Varejao on Duncan).

I misposted initially. Its Sixers Vs Bullets.

Haha.  I deleted that post, after I realized you had made a typo.  Lucky for the Knicks, since the 76ers would eat them alive. ;)

Looking at the match-ups I like this series a lot.

Felton V Hinrich - I like Felton more personally but this is a close match-up. Hinrich is a better fit for Philly

Wade V Fields - It's not even close. I think this match-up wins the series for Philly.

Granger V Igoudala - Even match-up. I personally like Granger more, but much like the PG situation above Iggy is a better fit for Philly.

Aldridge V West - I like Aldridge more here, but it's not like the SG discrepancy

Gortat V Varejao - Personally like Gortat more and think he is better overall, but still the discrepancy here isn't that great

I give Washington the edge overall on the bench but I like Kenyon Martin as the best back-up big man in the series. I think his defense on Aldridge will be very important.

In the end I think this is a great and competitive series but I think Wade is too much. Don't think Battier can really contain him either but he will help and should start over Fields.

I like Philly to advance in a tough six game series as of now.

I think Varejao will very important to slowing LaMarcus Aldridge down. He is their best man-to-man defender in the post against someone of Aldridge's size + skill-level.

I'd use Kenyon as a secondary defender when Varejao is resting. He doesn't have the size to stop seven foot post scorers as seen by Pau Gasol's success against him in the postseason in previous years. Still, he'll defend Aldridge very well in every situation outside of the low post.

I'd keep David West on Marcin Gortat at all times.

Well Who said it before I could, Varejao will be on Aldridge whenever he's in the game.  Gortat isn't a threat in the post.  K-Mart will continue to make life hard for ALdridge when Varejao sits down.  Bonner will take Splitter's minutes to draw Gortat out of the paint, aside from him the Bullet's defense isn't that great.

As for Granger, he won't have an easy time scoring either with Iguodala on him.  He held him to 17 ppg in their last 18 matchups.

Plus my team defense is way better than real-life Philadelphia.

On offense, all I have to say is Landry Fields on Dwayne Wade.  I don't think 33 year old Battier is fast enough to try to contain Wade or Iguodala.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Felton isn't the answer.  13 points on 36% shooting vs Hinrich:

Felton has struggled in his first two playoff outings too.

Once for Denver and once in Charlotte.

I believe Philly will win this series.

D-Wade will be dropping buckets against Landry Fields even if Landry is total effort on defense.

Aldridge and Granger can be contained by Kenyon, Iggy and Varejao I think.

Dwyane Wade against Landry Fields and Danny Granger vs Andre Iguodala has sold me to say I think the Sixera will win this series.

Landry cant stop D- Wade even if he is a solid effort on defenae while Iggy can slow if not shut down Granger.
