According to realgm, the NBA is suing the NBAPA for "Unfair Labor Practices" for trying to shed their union status and is threatening in the process to dissolve ALL NBA contracts!

So in other words, it's now conceivable that every team starts with a clean slate? This would really let desired location teams in cap hell, like Orlando and LA, off the hook for bad decisions! As a fan of a Celtics team that was supposed to be set up to take advantage of 2012, I'm very concerned about this.

This will probably be dismissed by the courts.  There is no way contract can be voided if the players de-certify.  It has no beating.  This is the owners simply attempting to beat the players to court and preempt any lawsuit the players might file.  Really though, they are just being ridiculous.

From what I read, they are suing not because the players are going to shed their union status, but because the players (or their lawyers) were using the threat of that (which would be a sham) during negotiations the other day.

If that is actually what happened, then I think the league has a decent complaint there.  That would certainly not be a case of the players negotiating in good faith.

But anyways, there is no way this happens.  If the judge rules in favor of the owners, and says that if the union decertifies, it has to be the real thing, which would wipe out contracts that were attached to the Union, then there is no chance the players decertify.

The league is kind of doing the players a favor by doing this now, because had they waited until after the players decertified, and the judge ruled that way, the players would be screwed.  This way they can make the decision on whether to decertify knowing how big of a risk they will be taking.

The judges will tell them to negotiate their own deal, just like the they told the NFL. This is a non-story as far as I am concerned.
The beatings will continue until morale improves
