Assuming the lockout ends, what do you think about this possible lineup?

J. O'Neal / Jason Thompson / A.Gray or Fesenko)
KG / Carl Landry / JuJuan Johnson
Pierce / Jeff Green / Gilbert Brown
Ray Allen / Marquis Daniels / E'Twuan Moore
Rajon Rondo / Delonte West / Avery Bradley

Transactions:

Draft Picks - JuJuan Johnson and E'Twuan Moore ( or possibly Scotty Hopson or David Lighty instead of E'Twuan Moore if he doesn't pan out)

Trade with Sacramento:
Big Baby and a draft pick for Jason Thompson and Marquis Daniels.

MLE signings: split between:
Carl Landry @ $3 to $3.5 mil to get him here, we can pay him more later...
Aaron Gray or Fesenko: $2 to $2.5 mil
** This assumes we have an MLE. If the MLE is lower it's relative as all teams would have the same amount to use...

Re-signed Celtics Free agents:
Jeff Green / Delonte West

Rookie Free agents:
Gilbert Brown

I think that team can win a ring.

Thoughts?

We're a little weak on the 2 guard spot and I'm not completely sold on JO as the starting center, but otherwise it's not bad.

Not a fan of Jason Thompson (and he is not a center), and I am not completely sold on Landry being worth what he will be paid...which will be closer to the full MLE.  So, this doesn't really excite me.

I would much rather go after a true center like Kwame Brown with most of the MLE, and either keeping Davis, or sign and trading him for a backup PF.

I also would much rather see them get an insurance policy at PG behind Rondo and West, than signing Brown and Moore.

I haven't seen Jason Thompson play a whole too much so if someone could describe to me his game that would be great.

Mark Blount without the attitude problem, and less defensive ability...and a few inches shorter.

He is a finesse player, who has some skills, and can put up some decent numbers on a bad team...but he doesn't do the little things.  He isn't a great rebounder, he is a pretty terrible defender, and doesn't really attack offensively.

Though I really like Carl Landry, I think the C's are going to need more than Aaraon Gray and J.O. at the center position.

I'd be interested in adding either Dalembert, Kwame or Pryzbilla and then go all in for Dwight in 2012.

Nene and Chandler will probably command more than what the Celts can offer this offseason.

Also, we need another shooting guard/point guard type, besides Delonte, who is very injury prone. Hate to say it, but Mike Bibby could be a possibility.

Marquis is a RFA, we'd just have to sign him outright, not trade for him.

I think for this team to be a title contender Green has put up 15-18 PPG and Moore needs to be a solid contributer immediately (an effective 18-24 minutes per game).  Center position is a bit thin especially if JO can't stay healthy.

for center, I would go after Dalembert and Kwame Brown...maybe Kurt Thomas as a 3rd backup....both fit our need at center and are fairly durable to backup JO/start when he misses games

Shooting guard, I wouldnt be opposed to keeping Von wafer behind delonte....the guy is a shooter, and athletic, and if he finds his shot can be effective...

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
2 spot and Center are very weak.

Thompson would be a taller version of Jeff Green. He's pretty soft.

I like Landry, I would also give Baby another shot.
He's had the offseason to get over his injuries and work on his jump shot (not that i want him taking too many), and he's been to the playoffs/finals and performed at a high level- which is more than most of the FA market.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I would offer bbd a very generous 1yr contract since it doesn't hurt our cap to keep him to win now. That leaves our mle open to go after fa centers like kwame or dalembert.

That'd be what I'd do, we need PF/Cs to badly to let BBD walk if we can manage things well. Overpaying for one year would be ideal.

Just to pile on, this is the ideal solution, short of being able to sign and trade Davis for an upgrade (which is very unlikely).  Then you just have to hope that Davis learned from his experience last year of trying to do too much in a contract year, and he gets back to what he's good at.

I think Ainge is going to make a serious play for Howard in free agency so I don't think he'll be looking to spend "a lot" of money on the center position this year. i think he'll band aid it again.

Therefore I think Dalembert will be hard to land - I also think he'll end up in Miami anyway....

I agree, with Baby or Landry, they'd both bring some good things to the table.

I'd also be ok with Von Wafer at OG with Marquis behind him...

For my center rotation, I figured O'Neal and Gray would play big for us and then Thompson would come in handy against teams with centers more athletic centers.

How about this new version:

J. O'Neal / Gray / Kwame Brown
KG / Big baby / Troy Murphy / JuJuan Johnson
Pierce / Jeff Green / Gilbert Brown
Ray / Marquis / Wafer
Rondo / West / Bradley

Rookies: JuJuan Johnson

Free agent Rookies: Gilbert Brown

Split the mid level between Gray and Brown

Resign: Murphy / Big Baby / DWest / Wafer / Jeff Green

Sign Marquis as a RFA

I like the idea of bringing Marquis back, and I also would love to bring Semih back. I want Delonte back, no doubt.

I think Moore will be with the team when the lockout ends, I don't know about this kid Gilbert Brown. I think Marquis would be a 3rd option at the 2 and the 3, while Moore and/or Brown will be with the Rock Lobsters. Bringing back Wafer is ok, but maybe they could get some veteran help for the min or the LLE(if there is one), someone like Redd or McGrady.

The big problem is the PF and C spots. It's unlikely that BBD is coming back in green. Like Rondo says, Baby's doing what's best for Baby. So if a S&T will allow Baby to get more money, the Celtics should try to get some player in return who wants to be a role player around the big 4. Landry or Thompson would be great, but just like Baby, would not solve the lack of a C. IMO, if the Celtics can get Baby's replacement without using the MLE(if there's one), then they should go after D'Alembert, or more likely, after Kwame.

If the Celtics had Kwame and Semih (Gray or Ajinca instead of Semih would be fine, too) behind JO, I think Baby or his replacement plus JaJuan would manage quite well the minutes behind KG.

Hope there's a season, and the Celtics roster looks like the one you are proposing.
