  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Delonte is like the basketball equivalent of Mr.Glass. It's really too bad because if he was more durable I think he'd be a starter in the league. He's a solid combo guard that can guard either position has range and some scoring ability. I would definitely like to have him back, but no good can be had from having him as a primary backup. I think he's the perfect player to have on the floor with Avery Bradley while we try to figure out if he can play point.

Injuries are a concern but I still think Delonte is the perfect backup pg sliding over to the sg when necessary. He's an all around player and can spread the floor when Rondo is an issue and that is common in big games. The problem is that some players, mainly Pierce think they should play PG when Delonte is in the game instead of playing their role and then it turns into everyone standing around. Delonte can play point guard. I don't see that in Bradley at all. I think we need to move on from him. He probably will be a good defender but I just don't see the potential.

T'waun Moore could push Bradley and Delonte. He can shoot and has good instincts. Question is if he is quick enough. He is definitely a crafty player and may be more of a Combo guard than Bradley.

Does everyone agree that the playoffs are what matter? If so, how can anyone speak on him being injured b/c he was ready when it mattered!

Maybe a healthy Delonte West solidifies the bench and makes Ainge less likely to pull the trigger on the Perkins trade.

West is a borderline starter when healthy, but if you think one thing that the Celtics need is a stable set of reserves, then, arguably, the team should be open to other options and at least needs to consider who to sign as insurance for when Delonte gets injured again.
Stable reserves = mediocrity.

Now that our top players are well past their primes, we need high upside people around them. We need someone like Delonte who can contribute a lot, even if it is only a 40% case. It is a go hard or go home situation. If we want to play it safe, don't pretend to want to compete for a title.

West for the minimum is a great move. More money makes it a tougher decision.

IMO, the insinuation that West's injury is somehow responsible for the Perkins trade is  extremely farfetched.

Mr. Fragile, Delonte is a good ad for the AMA. He's a backup when healthy at best. Move him, he's never usable.

I was intentionally making a suggestion that I thought was as ridiculous as the comment I was replying to.

However, I would suggest that if Delonte West isn't good enough to strengthen the bench enough to not make Ainge panic, then he is more replaceable than some here are willing to admit.

So, here's a question.  If the pipe dream of Jason Richardson to the Celtics occurred and all the SG minutes were allocated to J-Rich and Ray Allen, would Delonte West playing PG only be the best choice for Rondo's backup or are there other cheap options who would be better if you wanted a solid playmaker off the bench?

no goals no expectations.Deonte can play, loves being a Celtic and plays with heart. As soon as the lockout is done. I would pay him. Lock him up long-term he is the best option at third guard.

I agree.  We will not get a better backup guard for the money.  Use the opportunity to develope Bradley, or some other young guard.  Money spent will need to be spent on a big man.

Locking up players like Delonte West long-term and treating them like indispensable core players is what bad GMs do.

disagree locking up players like Delonte is what good GMs do.
Why? because Delonte gives 100% effort. thats all you can really ask for. Injuries happen in basketball.
