CLE sends: Semih Erden

BOS sends: Kings 2014 second round pick (top 55 protected)

Why Cleveland does it: To free up a roster space, Semih is little used there and with Varejo, Jamison, Hickson, and Harangody there last year, and Varejo was injured. So I can't see him getting time with Thompson and any other free agents coming in. It would free a roster spot for them, like they did for us. (PS: I've been against the Cav's trade at the deadline since the start)

Why Boston does it: Pretty obvious, to get a big body that knows our system and has chemistry with the big 4. It would save money instead of trying to get two centers with splitting the MLE, or the LLE, or any variation of the two. Then we could pitch the full MLE at a center and offer him the starting gig. Knowing that we have Jermaine and Semih waiting in the ranks. That would leave our roster set up like this going into the preseason:

PG) Rondo, West, Bradley
SG) Ray, Moore, Gilbert Brown (<--likely to at least get a preseason/training camp invite)
SF) Pierce, Green, ? (<-- Do we really need another SF?)
PF) KG, JJ, ? (<-- Big Baby? Troy Murphy?)
C) ?, Jermaine, Semih

I realize this trade is a pipe dream since we already gave him up (unfortunately) but if it did happen, or something similar to it (ie: a different 2nd rounder or cash considerations) how would you feel about it? I would love it. That would put us one big body away from a menacing front court again, provided that the big body is healthy and lives up to the MLE (Dalembert? DeAndre? Przybilla?)

TP, I'd love to get Semih back. If Cleveland doesn't like Sacramento's 2nd rounder (top 55 protection is hard to ignore), they can send back Cleveland's own pick. That trade was terrible, and IF Semih really wants to play in the NBA (there were rumors of him being homesick), he's worth the pick.

seems likely for me...

the points you make are valid, i mean Semih hasn't proved himself yet in the NBA

a 2nd rounder for him is actually not bad...

Thanks! I think he would stay if he got back with the big 4 and Doc. He seemed happy in the beginning of the season, and he wasn't even healthy. That trade was the worst of our deadline trades. If it had been for the Heat's 2013 first rounder then that would've been a steal, but we got stolen.

Me too. I don't understand why we gave him up for Troy Murphy or Carlos Arroyo. I would love to have Semih and Chris Johnson back. Two young big bodies that have a big upside

I think the only thing that would stop it is Danny not wanting to go back on himself.

Fine by me. Dont really think it will help us all that much though. Too minor of a detail.

It's definitely not a game changer but it gives us a backup center who's younger than someone we would get for the vet's min and lets us keep whatever exceptions transfer over.(MLE,LLE. That sort of thing)

  • Rondo = Good
there's a reason Danny shipped him off mid-season for so little.

Perhaps the fact that he aint that great could be the reason..

Roster room for vets, which were not much help anyway.  Id rather have Semih than that pick.

I like him as a third center.

this might be the greatest, most realistic trade I have ever seen posted in these forums.  TP

with the caveat that I like semih as a 3rd string C with the understanding that he will inevitably get mins when JO goes down.. so we need someone else in front of him, preferably someone who has started nba games before.

My thinking exactly. Someone who can play 26-30 MPG and won't be afraid to go after rebounds.
